smart string alignment setups
 

For those of you using Smart Strings or the string box setup to do alignments for Ax cars or track cars, what are your measurements for the front and rear? I'm getting ready to realign my car, and I'll probably do slight toe in for the front (1-2mm) and slight toe out for the rear (also 1-2mm).
What setups have you had success with??

I have my own "home made" trammel bar set-up for measuring toe, but similar to the smart strings from the photos I've seen. Anyway, I think your toe settings are backward from my experience.

I would suggest zero to silght toe-out in the front, and slight toe-in in the rear. In my experience this gives the best turn-in and stability. Rear toe-out could bite you.

I have run 4mm total toe in.. but it was for Jorg Bergmeister in a 997GT3Cup :)

I would call your numbers "backwards" for a street driven car.

1-2mm total toe out (for autoX) and 1-2mm in on the rear (or zero)

I have tried toe out in the rear, it works well, but it is not for street car, and you better know what you are doing behind the wheel.

For track cars with no power (2.5 Spec car) at places like Daytona, I'll run zero toe in the front or rear for less scrub. I want to roll as much MPH as possible :)

Fro? Where are you in Virginia? I have several friends (with Porsches) in the Sterling area.

FYI: Toe will wear the tires quicker than excessive camber, be very careful with how much toe you dial in for a daily driver.

I like to run zero toe on the front and the 1-2mm toe in on the back.

For me a little toe in on the back makes the car feel better planted at mid corner to exit.

I'm in the Charlottesville area. The car isn't a daily driver. For SCCA, it's in F Prepared, and for NASA it is in "S". I'll drive it to and from events, and with the help of a sympathetic inspector, it maintains an inspection sticker. Camber is -2.9 or -3.0.

Yup, Kenny's still in the mix here. He's got hos own shop (Werkstatt) and I stop in on him now and again when he's not on the road. He's helped me a TON with my car.

I spoke to him shortly before your post :) It appears he is signed on again this year with the *team* he has worked with for several years now.

We will work together again this year on several projects :)
