Wet sump issues during Track use ???

Anyone out there had any experience with clouds of smoke and also engine failure (bearings / oil starvation) during track use.
Also any info on dry sump conversions done to Boxster - besides the ACCUSUMP...
I am using semi-slicks (Boxster S) @ track days and ran bearings @ 50,000kms. As did 3 other cars of same use, age and mileage. Several others on road rubber have serious smoking problems which result in the management system cutting power ? This seems to be oil vapour venting/plumbing problem
Boxster Spec racing series does not appear to have such issues.

You can modify the X-51 baffle and add the LNE deep sump (1/2 qt about $250) or the Mantis version (1.5 qt at about $500).

Accusump with LNE adaptor is not a bad option IMHO.

track day-smoke

I have had the exact same problem with my 2000 boxster-s. I also run semi-slicks on my car. From what I have been told, it is mainly due to surge. On my local race track there are 4 right hand turns after one another. Then mainly after the last right hander on the straight I get a massive cloud of smoke on my gear change. The oil sits to the left of the flat engine and when horizontal again on the straight, it surges to the rights, thus creates a large amount to un-burnt oil and the smoke cloud is created.

My oil level was also very high. The dip-stick showed it on the max mark but the digital meter was over the max mark by one notch. After a session or two, the oil was slightly lower, and the cloud of smoke was decreased alot, almost to nothing.

I will next time make sure I am somewhere in the middle or maybe slightly over the middle of the dip-stick max and min mark.

If a deep sump kit can slove this problem, I will defenietly fit it to my car. Have you fitted one, and has it sloved the problem?

the smoking is generally an AOS issue. most spec boxster guys mod the factory AOS and run a catch can type setup instead.

there IS an issue with this motor & right hand turns. because of the positioning of the head scavenge pumps, the oil pools in the left side heaed on sustained high g right handers. this can starve the sump. the best solution to this problem is a two liter accusump. LN engineering sells the oil filter adapter that will allow you to thread an accusump line between the oil filter & the block. this way, any drop in oil pressure will be stabilized by the accusump.

I believe the dry sump to be the safest lubrication system for any race engine and its been proven time and time again. The accusump is a simple machine, well actually it's a simple oil accumalator. The stock pump first fills the accumalator then pressurizes to whatever pressure the pump is outputting.I figured going with wet sump first and then decide whether to proceed with a full-on dry sump conversion.

Pictures of Accusump install on Boxster? Also any pictures of setups where people have removed AOS and put catch can? Those are on my list of to do's just dont want to recreate the wheeel if there are some good setup ideas already out there.

How do all of you get oil pressure indication into the Boxster? Has anyone had experience with the Mantis sump on the track? Will this give you enough to stay out of trouble on most tracks (g loading?)?
