Who else has dewinterized?
 

It finally came time to dewinterize Nicole and as of yesterday she is ready and rarin' to go! My GF made numerous comments on my grin from ear to ear! As has been said before it feels almost like getting a new car. As soon as I took the cover off to expose her beauty I fell in love all over again! :D

We had some rain yesterday and looks like there is some more in the forecast so I'm planning on driving her next weekend to the 986forum Chicago get together. :)

I also summerized my truck as well (removed winter tires and weight in the rear).

I think you're the first, Sammy!!! I changed my plugs and bought the oil, oil filter and new air filter. I also have a GT3 bumper and skirts to install (I'm starting this weekend on that). I'll probably have mine out and ready sometime in April. With any weather-luck, I'll put more than the standard 2k miles on the car this year!!!

but from all that rain, i did get some water leaking from the rear window :mad:

I started the process today. Here are a few things I did today:

1) 2 coats of Ragg Topp
2) Wiped off the wheels- got kinda dusty on the bottoms, even w/the car cover
3) RejeX'd front wheels

Maybe tomorrow I put some Z2 on or try the #425 PerfectLap convinced me to purchase. I hope to be driving in about 1-2 weeks.

A better question is who has winterized??

I just installed the GT3 bumper and side skirts. Even with the wheels off of the car, I really like the look of this mod! I thought I'd have trouble putting everything on without help (another pair of hands), but it went very smooth.

RaggTopp and Collinite #915 are next.

When I get her off the jacks, I'll take some pics. My goal is to have the seal grey version of the TriGem Box. ;)

These cars were made by Germans to be driven by Germans in German winters ... (They are also happy to sell some of us slobs a car or two as well) :D Mine grunts and groans in the cold but I think it likes it! The cold, cold air certainly gives a little boost to my acceleration.

Moral of the story: never winterize, just drive it.

I dewinterize mine every few days when it warms up enough to wash off the salt from the last snow/ice storm ;)

I have about another month to go before I'll bring Sally out. I'm waiting for a nice hard rain or two to get rid of all the salt.

well i made it trough the winter with driving the box every single day on summer tires and no extra weight added anywhere on the car, and managed to install a intake and short shifter in between :)
i think that every boxster owner shold give a winter drive a try, car really likes the extra cold air if nothing else.

so far my impressions are as follows:
this year must have been the worst winter year in chicago ever, and aside from those hard snow days its been like driving the car in summer, roads clear up in matter of hours, and its like driving a car in rain (wet ground rather than snow), and i actually drove trough a snow storm on these ********************ty tires (sorry for the word choice, but its the most appropreate), and i will try and source some winter tires over the summer when they will be pretty much cheap.
so all in all, if you have all season or winter tires, its really not a big deal to drive at all, i would go to an extent to say that its actually fun to drive in winter :)
but today was a top down 54 degree weather in chicago and car sure loves not having any top on

Here are a few more important steps for those that winterized:

1) Turn back on your insurance- I turn mine off, except a few minor things that are still required. During the 5 months of storage, I think the coverage costed about $35.00

2) MNBoxster recommends to manually turn the engine over before starting the car by pushing the car in 5th gear (manny tranny). I have yet to do this. Has anyone done this yet? I still wonder if I can do this with just the wife...or do I need the whole neighborhood to help?? :)

Unless you're a scrawny little college kid, you will be fine pushing it yourself. Just make sure you are not on a decline pushing against gravity.

The alternative is to let your big, burly wife do all the dirty work.

I put the car in gear (5th or 6th) and was able to push it 3-4 feet back and then forward by myself without too much difficulty.

My issue is never with it being too cold with the top, or being able to handle the car in snow, etc. My issue is and always will be the salt. I've seen what it can do to cars that are washed even twice a week, and I don't like it at all. I also will not take my car to an automatic wash, and since the hoses get turned off during the winter, I cant properly wash her at home either. That salt will creep into all the little nooks and crannies and fester there ruining her in the years to come. It's not a big deal for me to put her away for the winter, knowing that.

OK...I was able to move the car a few feet today!

I backed it out of the garage and applied a coat of Z2 and wiped down the wheel rims, just dust. It's been sitting in garage covered for several months itching to come out and play :)
