where to get a new battery
Does anyone know of a website where I can buy a genuine Porssche Boxster battery for a 2001...OEM. I woulsd rather replace it with a genuine Porsche Battery
Thanks |
If you really want OEM, have you tried the P-dealership in Appleton:
Porsche of the Fox Valley 920-968-1212 |
Thanks Bmussatti
Already made the call....I just thought there was a web site that was available where I could pick one up a little cheaper! |
Why in the world would you want a Porsche OEM battery? You like paying 5 - 10 times as much as a regular battery just for the Porsche lettering?
I guess it's your money. Me? I just replaced mine for $50.00 at Sam's Club. Probably the same battery you're buying - it just doesn't say Porsche... |
I got money to burn...but I guess it is my perogative
|
just go to Costco
Just because you have it, doesn't mean you have to spend it.
I guess your still in that, new money stage.... ahhh memories... |

well if your willing to spend money on a battery get the real deal (15 pounds) I don't know why sports cars are sold with batteries that weigh 4 and 5 times what they should. $160 http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product2_10001_10002_763922_-1 http://www.jegs.com/images/photos/147battery_2.jpg here's the F1 of batteries Carbon Fiber Battery |
I will look into that providing it fits my Boxster
|
Lets help eachother out
Its not so much that I am trying to be a wise *** but every time I sincerely ask for input I get some know it all with a smart response or worse yet, some know it all that won't take others suggestions into consideration. It gets quite tiresome.....I thought this was a forum where we all could get together and offer insight and help eachother out.....just my 2 cents even though it may not be worth much.

The battery used by Porsche is Moll. http://www.moll-batterien.de/ Porsche does not make batteries.
I do not know of an aftermarket source in the US for this brand. For a while Porsche was using Douglas batteries for warranty replacements. Douglas is a US company but their batteries could be made in Mexico for all I know. Porsche switched back to Moll a few years ago. Guess Moll was the lowest bidder. I have been doing this Boxstering stuff since 1999. Been to a lot of dealerships and independent shops. I see the defective Moll batteries stacked outside on pallets. I would not buy an overpriced Moll battery when there are better alternatives out there. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2950 If you have money to burn give some of it to me and I will put in you Box a better battery at a fraction of what the dealer will charge you. There is nothing special about about a 12 volt lead acid automotive battery called Moll. |
Thanks tool pants....that sounds like the viable alternative
|
How much does the OEM battery weigh, approximately?
|
Don't have a clue , mine is still in the car and dead!

Most common that I have seen is the 70 amp hour. But you know, if you have navigation or the cold start option you get a bigger battery, or at least you are supposed to. The Moll 80 amp hour is much larger than a 60 amp hour because 80 amp hour has a greater capacity. I'm still looking for my picture of the Molls stacked outside by dealership on a pallet. For the time being here is a 70 and 80 on the shop floor before they are dumped outside. I am not going over to the dealership with a scale. They already think I'm crazy.... |
Found it. This picture is 4 years old. The size of the stack changed over time. Then they got rid of the shopping carts and put them on a pallet. I do not have a picture of the stack on the pallet as I saw that after the pic.
Then they are hauled away and the stack repeats itself. |
I think the factory battery is 50 pounds.
There's also Optima and Odyssey lightweigh batteries (sealed battery, no leaks). If you have to replace, go for an upgrade I always say. |
For what it is worth, Consumer Reports did a test on batteries, last fall I believe. They ranked the Maxx batteries from Wal-Mart in the top three in all the different battery groups. I put one in one of my other cars, and have not had a problem out of it yet. And I have already changed the one in my Boxster, otherwise I would put one in it also.
|
The yellow cased Maxx sold by Wal-Mart is made by Johnson Controls. http://www.johnsoncontrols.com/annualreports/2000/pg10.htm
You folks need to read the Renntech.org link if you have not done so already and need a replacement battery. Johnson Controls is a very big company and sells stuff under many different names and at many different retail locations. Now I'm going to have to go to Wal-Mart with my camera... |
Shipping would be more expensive than the dealers
You want the best battery, get an Optima. Lighter, lasts longer, survives more discharges, truely maintenance free.
A table of batteries that are known to work is in this web page that started out about Optima batteries but expended to be all things I've learned about batteries. [urll]http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/optimabatterymountingkit[/url] |
I called optima and they have no application that fits either of the Boxsters
