Engine Oil Level Meter?

I was reading the manaul which says when the engine is started there is a display for an electronic engine oil level. was this an option as there is no display on my 2002 Boxster...just wondering and checking the oil level the old fashioned way..thanks.

Turn the key to the "On" position without starting it. The place where the clock usually is will start a short count down and when it's finished it will display your oil level.

A couple of things to be careful with when using the electric meter. First is don't use it when you stop for gas. It will pop up, but it will usually show 1-2 bars low unless the engine has sat for an hour or more giving the oil a chance to drain to the pan. Second is look carefully at the electronic guage. When the oil is full, the top bar on the guage is not lit. There are arrows pointing at the safe range for the oil. If all of the bars are lit, you are over full by about 1/2+ quarts.
