is this what idiots think of us?
Sometimes I get crap about my car or I hear crap from other "car people". Typical stereotypes and generalizations range from, "You can't afford a real Porsche" to "Your car is a girl car."
I usually ignore the critics because I know I know ten times as much as them about cars and I can't possibly respect an ignorant opinion. That's like if a blind man told me my shirt was ugly and I went and changed it because of his opinion.
Here's one example I witnessed today...
This was taken from a forum I use a lot, my350z.com, which is a community for Nissan 350Z owners.

I can't get over the utter stupidity and ignorance displayed here. I don't even need to explain why.
This isn't the first example I've seen.
Do you guys get crap also? From what specific groups do you hear it from? How do you respond? BMW communities have never spoken a word other than to compliment me.
This type of ignorance actually upsets me.

Thanks for letting me rant, guys.

no
No one ever says anything like that to me, they probably wouldn't dare..., at least in my presence...
The way I look at it, does it really matter what they think?
Especially irrelevant people.

Fortunately nobody has ever said it to me in person besides my sister who got it from a tv drama (sopranos is a great source for auto info. and reviews)
I don't respect their opinions but it bothers me that people could be so stupid and what's worse is they are content w/ their ignorance.

It's just the fact that his post has absolutely ZERO fact in it or logical reasoning and that is how baseless stereotypes and generalizations get spread.
Most of them are between 18-22 years old on that forum. I'm not sure if that is a contributing factor to the levels of ignorance, but there is definitely a correlation.

I don't care what other people think. I didn't buy my Boxster (or my Prius) to impress others.

If those comments were delivered by someone slightly more articulate (or at least knew some basic English grammar) then I might have read his opinion. Plonk.

I usually dont put too much stock in the opinion of a person that uses the word "da" for "the", but that may be just me.
So he is saying his Boxster experience is driving a '98 911? Hmmm.

I think he was saying that as a 911 owner he too believed Boxster owners didn't belong.
I don't know why it offends me. Coming here and feeling all the pure love for driving is what makes me love it here. It seems like this poster and some people on that site are just fanboys.
No fanboys here. Just people who love driving.

You know, people like that tend to get under my skin. How dare they condescend the Boxster and Boxster owners. It's not only beautiful, but it's such a well balanced car. Other peoples' ignorance tends to annoy me.
Then I slide into the driver's seat of my Box, plug in my iPod, and the annoyance (is that a word?) goes away.
Screw the haters, lol, whether they are 350Z drivers, 911 drivers, or Saturn Sky drivers.

I bought the car because I loved the styling and frankly a convertible 911 doesn't look as nice IMHO and for what people have to say about me, my car or whatever
the **************** i own doesn't bother me at all. I'm the one who worked for it all so I'll do as I please. Now i must try to figure out how to fix my IE browser from being redirected every time i type an address

I'm with Schnell. I bought the car for me and I really don't care what anybody else thinks. I didn't buy it to impess people with. That is why they have chocolate and vanilla. You have a choice.

People have opinions, right or wrong. The issue I find with most things of this nature, is the lack of tact that so many in the online community illustrate. I find it particularly more amusing when I see things written in horrible grammer and spelling akin to a 12 year old. I just have to laugh when I see things written like "yo man u got to get a 350Z, there da bomb. I'll never buy a boxster, themz girls cars."
Granted, a good percentage of them are under 25, and most, by a good margin at that. I run into this kind of thing on the few occasions when I meet the local car group for dinner or something of the sort, which is largely comprised of 16-25 year olds driving modified neons and evos and the like. Either people think the Boxster is cool, or its 'yo man, why yo got a girl's car?" Personally, I could care less. What I find extremely satisfying, however, is when I am parked near a modified Evo or something like that like, is how all the guys will flock to that, while all the girls flock to the Boxster, and the look on the face of the Evo owner is priceless enough.
Just enjoy what you drive, some will like it, some won't. At the end of the day, how much do you really care?

I'd say the age has a lot to play into it. Younger guys feel the need to 'beat their chests' a bit more than some of us.
Saw it a bit more on my previous car's forums. Most people who owned a Hyundai Tiburon were younger. When I bought my 911 as a project car, the difference between the Tiburon and Porsche forums was night and day. Not saying there weren't any decent people on the Tiburon forums, because there absolutely were... but there was a fair share of ignoramuses.
And if someone said something to me like that a$$tard quoted from the Nissan forums, I'd just laugh, because I know I have a nice car, and I know what it's capable of.

I've gotten nothing but positive comments about mine. My rich car collector buddy with 60 some vintage muscle cars and a couple of Bentleys had one in '99 and loved it, even with only 200 horses. He raves about how nice mine is. But then again, he knows cars...

Why do you care what this person said? Is he/she some sort of authority? I really don't think it is worth the energy or bandwith to respond.
