00 Boxster Ticking Noise When Warm

I am having an odd ticking noise whenever the car is at operating temperature. I saw in some forums that this can be the EGR valve. The sound does get faster as I accelerate. It is very loud and annoying. I tried unplugging each of the two sensors on the driver side of the engine (near the intake manifold). The one clamped to the side of the manifold had absolutely no effect, the one underneath the manifold (seems to be plugged into some sort of filter) seemed to actually make the sound quite a bit more quiet! But even with the sensor underneat the manifold unplugged, there is still a noticeable clicking sound. Can someone please help me fix this? I am running out of ideas...

I thought you were going to talk about the wonderful ticking sounds our engines make at idle. It's like sitting in front of a timebomb, I tell you!

Valve noise... I know what it is... my buddy's 996 sounded just about the same.

You want really bad valve noise (lifter noise) listen to a BMW engine. Mine was super loud and some people had theirs fixed under warranty. You just have to regap the clearence. I dont know how you would do it for a Boxster, but for a BMW straight six you took off the manifold and added micro shims or something to the lifters. IIRC
