Amber to Clear

Hi all,

I just bought my 2001 Boxster S (in arctic silver) this Friday. (I already voted in the appropriate polls).

The car has the litronic headlights already which is really nice since amber just doesn't look right on silver. Anyway, I was going to buy the 2003 taillights and euro-sidemarkers from ********************************************.

They say the parts on Genuine...maybe I'm skeptical, but when I hear that I always say "genuine what". So I'm curious, has anyone worked with this company before to buy things? How was your experience? Are these the real Porsche parts of are they from a genuine aftermarket source?

Any other choices to buy the clear tails and euromarkers? What else do I need when I buy these, different light bulbs, etc.? How hard is it to swap the tails and the sidemarkers?

Thanks.

Too expensive! Call Rick Knab at Suncoast Porsche at 1-877-923-1700 on Monday and tell him Gil from DGI in NY sent you. He'll do much better for you. Clear tails around $150 and clear sides around $25.

Good luck! :)

I agree, talk to Suncoast. I bought the side markers from them. I think it was aprox $30 total including shipping, which was super fast. They shipped my order less than 12 hours after I placed it and they shipped it 2nd Day Air when I paid for Ground. I plan on buying the tail lights from them soon (well as soon as I get some over time at work).

Oh yea. It takes about 5 minutes to swap out the side markers. There are a bunch of internet websites with instructions (including mine). I've never done the tail lights but that should only take about 20 minutes from what I have heard. All the bulbs and stuff should be included.

That's great, thanks a lot!! I will definitely call Rick on Monday. I need to get my new digital camera so I can take pictures again!

Are these the OEM parts?

Thanks, for the install instructions QporscheQ.

No problem. The side markers are OEM Porsche and I would only assume the tail lights are as well.

As I said, they are a Porsche dealer and ofcourse it is original Porsche parts! :)

Nice ordered them today, they should be here next week! $221.17 shipped for the tails, sidemarkers and bumper plugs.

Thanks for you help guys!

YEAH!!! :D I got these in the mail and with my new digital camera!! To bad I don't know how to remove the taillights, nor did I get my 512 MB memory stick! :(

aesir 04-27-2004 06:23 PM

Well the sidemarkers went in easy enough. The guy at Suncoast said 4 bolts per taillight. I'm wondering if he meant 4 total since I only see 2 bolts per taillight. The crappy thing is I don't have a wrench to try with just the two anyway!

I should try calling a service department in Hawaii and ask. I wonder what time it is there?!

Tool Pants 04-27-2004 08:18 PM

There are four 8 mm nuts per rear tail light.

aesir 04-27-2004 08:43 PM

So how do I get to the 4 bolts? I see two screw things sticking out behind where the taillights are and a bunch of trunk carpeting, but I still don't see the 4 bolts. Am I losing my mind here?

I imagine you get to the taillights through the rear trunk right?

Tool Pants 04-27-2004 09:30 PM

There are 2 round black plastic discs on each side. Unscrew them and pull the carpet flap back to expose the 4 nuts.

Nice, I'm going to take care of this tonight!

Question concerning the tail light replacement:

On Pelican Parts they suggest replacing the tail light seal when you replace the light. Is this necessary or are they just trying to sell you more junk?

Thanks.

Stryke 04-29-2004 06:00 AM

No need! I pealed the original rubber seal and applied it on the new lights.

aesir 04-29-2004 09:12 PM

That's what I did!
