is this a good price
i am looking to replace the front/rear brake pads for my 00 boxster. Any suggestions on which name brand to buy? What the cost wil be? Which merchant will have the best price?
I've found a ebay seller who has Mintex pads front and rear plus wear sensors starting bid @ 139.99. |
Brake Dust
Another consideration would be which pads are effective and don't create too much brake dust. I don't know what pads are on my '02 but I have never seen such black soot all over the wheels even after modest braking. I hear these Mintex are good and don't produce the large amount of dust, anybuddy have experience along these lines? I imagine it is a trade off in dust vs. rotor longevity but good lord....the dust......

Brakedust...Good Lord you don't know brakedust if you haven't had a BMW. My 99 328 is the worst I have ever seen. I see it everyday even on the new 7 series.
Being used I don't know what's on mine, but I get very little brake dust from the Boxster. |
You wont find a better price than this for Mintex pads.

Adam, thank you for the link. The price is much cheaper but now reading what SC986 wrote brake dust is more important to me than price. I rather pay a little more if that's the case.
Any recommendations on which break pads to buy that will perform well and minimize the brake dust? |
Hi,
If you're looking for good performance and minimal dust, consider the Porterfield R4S Pads. Better than Mintex. I've used them both, both good, the R4S are better. See: http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/price/Porsche/Boxster/Porterfield/Brakes/Brake_Pads Hope this helps... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |

My Benz isn't much better either  Nick |
I've been pleased with the Ferodo's I put on last summer. Don't know what was previously on my Box when I bought it, but you would see brake dust 1 day after washing it. The Ferodo's can go close to 1 week. And they are quiet until some dust builds up, but quiet down again after a bath. They go for about $200 for both front and rears. Haven't had them on long enough to know how they wear, but that's subject to a lot of variables anyway. I haven't tracked mine, it's a daily driver, and I don't drive like M Schumacher.

I had Porterfields on a previous car when I beefed up the brakes and clutch. Low brake dust was a VERY welcome change. Don't let that brake dust sit on the car for too long, particularly in the hot sun. it will eat right through the clear coat. Strip the wheels with a Dawn type liquid or a dedicated wheel cleaner like P21s each time you wash. And don't spend too much time coating them with wax, brake dust cuts right through that.

I replaced all of my pads with Mintex for about $110 from PelicanParts.
