Rail 26 in Dallas

Dallas-oans,

I will be attending a aircraft training course in Dallas from 14 - 20 FEB. Wondering if anybody wants to get together for a beer and show off their ride? I will be in South America starting Wednesday, but will have email access. No Civet coffee please.

Say hello to the El Exigente for me.

Before you go Rail repeat " Soy Americano fuerte y bravo y me gusta la cerveza bien fria. Take care of yourself and be careful amigo. Vaya con Dios.

That's what I'm talking about! Thanks for the good luck mi amigo.

Jeph 01-22-2007 07:17 PM

Definite Maybe...

Cool, you could be my first real internet friend. I mean, I have tons of internet girlfriends, but they're always on their little modeling shoots.

Let me tell you about a burger joint called Snuffer's. It will change your life! Where in Dallas are you gonna be? Dallas Dallas, or fake Dallas (Ft. Worth). I'll be in Chicago for the first part of your trip (anybody wants to get together for a beer and show off their ride?), but drop me a line, send a PM, or post up. I'm down. My car's nothing special...

Rail26 01-22-2007 07:50 PM

I am not that familiar, but I will be staying around DFW. Something about airplanes needing runways...crazy contraptions they are.

I'm down for burgers if you can make it...a life changing burger? I'm skeptical. Does it come with Civet mustard?

Jeph 01-22-2007 07:54 PM

Without a doubt... LIFE CHANGING BURGER (and cheddar fries)!

I'm close to the airport (as long as it's DFW -or DF-dub as us ghetto youth call it), and close to a Snuffer's. So it's ON like Donkey Kong!

timothy 01-22-2007 08:33 PM

Count me in whenever ya'll pick a date. Plus I really want to see Jeph's front-end conversion!

Jeph 01-22-2007 08:37 PM

Aww yeah, party's getting bigger. Tim, you ever been to Snuffer's? Can you testify to its magnitude of epic food?

timothy 01-22-2007 09:03 PM

Sorry to say that I have never gazed upon the wonders of Snuffer's, but if you say so that's good enough for me.

Rail26 01-23-2007 05:17 AM

Tim and Jeph,

I PM'd my cell phone number to you. I will be in town on the 14th. I think I am staying at the Hilton Garden Inn 1 mile South of DFW. Look forward to partaking in this legendary, life changing burger and cheddar cheese fries.

A little background on Snuffers

Dallas Restaurant Review:

Snuffers is a burger joint. Period. The menu is very short – one little page – hamburgers, cheeseburgers, bacon cheeseburgers, fries, several nachos, sides, and appetizers. Full bar. I remember when TGI Fridays and Chili's had brief, no-nonsense menus like that. And larger crowds, I might add. After 15 or 20 years, Snuffer's restaurant still has the crowds.
SETTING - Snuffers is in an old building on lower Greenville Avenue right next to the historic Granada Theatre. There are 2 or 3 dim, cozy rooms plus a very nice patio (photo above). The Dallas Morning News has published a couple stories about the Snuffer's ghost that has been known to spook the employees late at night, and even a few customers. Click here.

FOOD - Snuffer's awesome and well-seasoned Cheddar Fries are legendary. The hamburger is 1/2 pound, and if you order it Medium Rare and juicy, that's the way it comes (unlike wimpy chains who are so scared of being sued that they now cook every burger at least Medium for "health reasons"). The margaritas are good and also cheap ($2.95), but on the small side. Order two. Or get the somewhat larger and even better top-shelf version ($4.95). Snuffer's warns that they’re stronger, and they are. The soft drinks are served in glasses about a foot tall.

AMBIANCE - Burger hole-in-the-wall, but with a very casual restaurant look. Age and character. Younger crowd. There is now another Snuffer's on N.W. Hwy at Preston Rd. which tries to replicate the original. (Sorry, guys -- close, but no cigar.) Go to the one on Greenville Avenue.

Downside? - You can forget about eating light. We are talking about some serious burgers and fries. I don't even remember if they have a salad.

BOTTOM LINE - Burger heaven. With Cheddar Fries.

Yeah baby! Ghosts, Cheddar Fries and Medium Rare Meat...Woohoo!

Damn, you're making me hungry. I wonder what kind of fares Southwest has to DFW right now.

Jeph 01-23-2007 03:36 PM

We'll probably be going to the newest Snuffer's in town, in lovely Southlake, Texas. (We'll see a lot more Porsches there, and it's closer to the airport.) Yes, I should have mentioned the cheddar fries, although I wanted it to be a culinary (or coronary) surprise. The only word to describe them is Legendary.

By the time you get here, I will probably have eaten there 9 times already. I may be alive in Feb.

Grizz, jump on the plane and share a burger! First round is on me, except for the ghost. I'm not buying him crap unless he looks like that ghost from Ghostbusters...i think his name was Slimer? 300 clams on Southwest to answer your question.

Very tempting. Throw back a couple of burgers and some cold Colt 45 with you guys and Slimer? Doesn't sound so bad.

Grizz, as a warm blooded, terrorist fightin', Porsche drivin', gun toten' Amuuurican, it is your duty...ney, GOD GIVEN RIGHT to share hops and dead cow with members of the Armed Forces and Porschefiles.

" Hi honey? Yeah, it's me. I'm in, um, Dallas. Yeah. Well, actually, I think this jail may be in Fort Worth. What? I was just minding my own busines, having a burger. Listen, can you wire me some bail money? For my friends too? Well, see that's the problem. Their wives already said no. Funny, that's exactly what the cops called me just before the whole Taser/pepper spray episode."

Hey Grizz, this is Mrs. Grizz, it's alright honey I completely understand. In the words of my favorite president, Ronnie Reagan, when he found out the Israeli's bombed the Iraqi nuclear reactor, "Boys will be Boys." Now, I want you to drink a couple more beers so you are good and hungover when you come home. You deserve it..oh and by the way, I took out the garbage, mowed the yard, washed your car and bought some lingerie.

Yeah...That's almost exactly how it would go...

This picture doesn't do justice to the fries but...

Loaded Cheese Fries: Bacon, chives, jalapeños on the side... dipped in ranch, served to perfection. Death never tasted so good.

If you look real closely, you just might find a fry.
