rear diffusers
do you guys think they will looks good on my car or not?
i am thinking about getting a pair, or possibly a updated bumper. here is a quick photoshop of them on my car http://i1.tinypic.com/2s8gryf.jpg |
I think they will always look good on any boxster. I on the other hand think they cost too much.
|
they kinda do, as much as it costs to get a whole new bumper with them on on fleebay
|
True, if you find any for a decent price, let me know ok.
|
Ive got some, they look good, but not a huge difference.

I like them. And wish the 987 had them. Porsche gave them to the Cayman:

THANKS, B!
If it's only for the looks, it really looks good...looking at the pix posted by dj, w/out the diffuser, it's kinda rear naked..hehehehehehe! |

It looks good. Nice P-chop too. I think the euro bumper (bumperette-less) would be a more noteworthy upgrade. Then strap a diffuser to that.

now it makes a lot of sense, all i have to do is break down this formula and i'm good to go...hehehehe! j/k! so, it does have a purpose on a certain cars but mainly looks for our boxster. not bad, better than 747 wing on the rear.... -Gerry |
Djomlas,
Those look good on your car. If you keep the standard bumper without diffusers, what would look fantastic but is a little pricey is if you would put a Porsche sports exhaust on there, with the dual tips and dual pipes that show underneath the car from behind. The old style one, not the new style one. Take care, Mike |
It depends on what kind you buy. The ones I bought use the existing holes in the bumper and are a straight bolt on without drilling holes.
I bought them to complete the back end and block the view of the transmission now that my aftermarket muffler makes the rear end's mechanicals so visible. Sadly, I have no pix to show anyone yet because the friggin' body shop I want to use said "we're swamped for two weeks. Don't bring the pieces in for a good long while." Time for another body shop I think! |
Djomlas, did you paint your bumperettes yet? I agree with Jeph, our cars look better without the bumperettes.
|
How do yours use only stock holes? Mine use THE 2 stock bolts and you drill one hole by the exhaust tip. Where else could you attach it?
|
i didnt paint anything yet
|
Here are mine, DJ. I like them. This isn't the best picture, but you get the idea. I also painted the bumperettes and put the twin exhaust tips on it like Mike mentioned.

Hi all,
Is it a law or something to have bumperettes on your cars in the US. Here in Europe I have never seen them on any Pcars and only rarely when I lived in Australia. My P-Mechanic always told me that bumperettes were for the oldies who were scared of a little nudge up the rear. Fair enough I suppose. But I say take em off! The rear diffuser looks great and improves the look of the rear in my opinion. I will put them on as soon as my wife gives me some pocket money but I do think the twin pipes must be done also to complete the look!!! Cheers, Steven. |

You poor poor bastards!!!!!!!!
I cant belive that. What happens if you take them off? get a fine? Cheers |
you dont get a fine, you just have a hole in your bumper, and none of us really like the bumperettes
|
Actually, I do like the bumperettes, painted or not. And I also think that the diffusers look good on cars with the non-dual exhaust tip. :D
|
I think the twin pipes just finish the look off. The rear diffuser looks great with single or twin pipe. As far as bumperettes go, im happy no one uses them except in the N-America.
Coincidencly my car is a US build. Has no bumperettes and no holes either. Cheers Steven. |
eh its just a bumper, that can be changed. your car looks great tho
|
Djomlas,
Here's a shot of the twin pipes I was talking about. This is my 2001. Not the best picture but it will give you the idea. Take care, Mike |
Is that a Dansk with the "super sound" tailpipes ?
Looks sweet ! Nick |
NickCats,
Thanks, it is actually a Porsche Sports Exhaust, the early version not the most recent model that they sell. It's the one that has the valves to open and close depending on the level of sound that you want (although I didn't hook that feature up, I like it on full sound the whole time!) Take care, Mike |
nice ride man, that looks great but man that exhaust is sticking from underneth too much, dont you think?
|
Yeah, its a little low but its grown on me as I like it like that as you can see the pipes running parallel to the ground. I had it installed by Ruf in Dallas and that was the first thing I noticed, but that was the best they were able to get it adjusted.
Mike |
Thanks, Mike. At first look I thought you had the same exhaust as Boxtaboy.
