New wheels, and a review of Wheel Dynamics

I decided it was time for a change,change of wheels that is. I decided to sell my Technologys with some curb rash in favor of some replica Carrera Lights for several reasons;It was going to cost me at least $300 to repair the curb rash to all my wheels,the Carrera are a butt load lighter then my technologys(Just by quick estimate of my bathrooom scale I saved 10lbs. per corner). Sold my technologys for $800 gave Wheel Dynamics a call. For $1,081 Carlos(great guy) shipped me my wheels in two days. He doesn't charge shipping to buyers in California! Now a quick review of the wheels;

-finish is very nice not perfect,if you look closely you will find very minor flaws. Being anal about my car I was the only one who noticed.

-I can't feel the estimated 40lbs. that I supposedly lost changing wheels,BUMMER!

-Do yourself a favor and buy the OEM wheel caps and valve stems, they will make the wheels look 1000x better then the cheesy wheel caps and plain black valve stems.

-The wheels alone make your car look a couple of years newer,I LOVE the look!

I will be sure to post pictures of the car with the new wheels tommorow.

Very cool.

Those are the same rims that RandallNeighbour has on; got to see those and they are sweet! You did get 18" right? and with them did you put any spacers on?

Been wanting to get a set myself but just bought new rubber a month ago on my stock 17" and have an Aero kit being placed on it this week; so with the budget set aside it will either be new rims/tires or litronic headlights and de-amber

Look forward to seeing the updated photos.

Post some pics too when you get your ride back - I'm in a similar situation as you regarding the wheels, and would like to see how the 17s look with the Aero kit.

factory Carreras are 21 pounds, replica should be more?.
The more crucial bit is the tire weight. Its better to have a heavy wheel and light tire than a light wheel and heavy tire like a Toyo RA1 r comp.

There is no way both the front and backs OEM Carreras are 21lbs. The replica fronts weighted 23 lbs. and the rear 27lbs,with packaging.

they sure are. I weighed myself on the scale, took one wheel out of the box (no tire) and got back on the scale holding the wheel directly over my head. 21 pounds front and the back wheel was about half a pound heavier.

Hmm I never weighted my replicas out of the box but the package labeling said the fronts were 23lbs, 18x8 the rears still packaged were 27lbs,18x10.*

I just weighted my OEM Technologys before packaging.....34lbs in the front for a 18x8.5 and the rears were 37lbs,18x10!!!! I saved at 40+lbs changing wheels and can't feel it,what a bummer! Just something to consider for eveyrone doing mods to save 10lbs here 20 lbs there.

Travis,

Can you post pics of your Box once the Aero Kit is installed? I'm about to
purchase the GT3 and side skirts from DPS. I still have 17"s on mine too and
wanted to see a pic of a Boxster with 17" wheels and the Aero Kit.

Thanks!
Georg

Now you need to get those calipers painted red! I did it the weekend after I got my Carrera aftermarkets (Carlos did me right too!) and it really looks great. I'm so happy with them. I putz around parking lots though because I refuse to get curb rash on them anytime soon... and no one else gets to drive the car unless we're out in the country.

Long live my rash-free rims!

curb rash on alloys is not the end of the world. I've cleaned up the scuffs a few times. Just takes allot of time.

Blinkwatt,

I love the top on your car. That's a nice color combination. Wheels look great too. I also got the Carrera lightweights from Carlos at Wheel Enhancement. 18 inchers.

Your Box looks great with the new wheels and the de-ambered lights, grey top with that color. I agree with the red caliper comment... would look great.
