Headlight Question

My fist question as a new member. Hopefully someone knows about Boxster lights.

I need to replace both headlights on my 1997 Boxster. The inner lenses are yellowed, melted, and cracked. I suspect the earlier owner used the wrong bulbs. Sad, as the rest of the lights are perfect.

The dealer's computer says his computer shows no Boxster lights with the leveller tubes. Is that true? The ones presently in the car have levellers. And the owners manual shows levellers. But most shown on e-bay lack them. Confused. Were the levellers just on 1997s?

Also, is anyone aware of what years had amber turn signal lenses versus what years had ever so slightly darker orange lenses.

Any input would be appreciated.

Mike.

It just so happens that I am selling a pair of headlights on ebay. ZERO yellowing, melts, or cracks.

By levelers, are you refering to the little bar in the headlight housing that looks like a little ruler? Look below:

I'm not sure, but I don't think there was a year that initiated a lack of amber, rather it's an option maybe? I see amber on all boxsters on ebay from 97 to 04.

Thanks Jeph

That's pretty funny. I saw the lights you have for sale earlier today on e-bay. Only thing is I recently bought a drivers side from Porsche, so was kind of only looking for a passenger's side. Though perhaps the one from Porsche (which was used) could be returned.

How much are you looking to get for one or the two?

Actually, the present lights in the car have both the ruler (for horizontal allignment) and the bubble leveller (for vertical allignment). One on each side. I removed one of the cars original lights tonight. They were made in Germany and have a slightly different code on the yellow sticker than the version without the bubble leveller, which was made in the Czech Republic (still Bosch).

My suspicion is that 97 had the bubble levellers, but that they did away with them after 97.

The bubble levellers seem like a good idea. Not sure how one alligns as well without them.

Mike.

The spirit headlights were only for 1997. There was a change in the law and they went away for model year 1998. Porsche no longer sells this light. That is why your parts guy cannot find them. All 986 headlights have the "ruler."

I know. I have a 1997 that got backed up into by a truck a few years ago. Switched to 996 clears. I still have the right side headlight with the bubble level.

It's a no reserve, one cent auction. I'll be happy as long as my shipping costs are covered. There are 10 people (snipers?) watching the auction as of present (7 day auction).

I was saving my halogens in case I ever wanted to sell my car, I could pop them back in and sell my litronics (xenons) on ebay. However, since I am currently in the process of upgrading to 02-04 Carrera headlights (slightly different style/shape), I will have no need or use for the old halogens.

Mike, assuming the outer lenses are ok I would take these off your hands. I track my '99 box and could use a set of headlights to pop in just for that...they don't need to work...I'll probably paint over them anyway.

Let me know if you're interested in getting rid of them.

Cheers

Jason
