Did a few somewhat overdue maintenance items on the 986 yesterday, wrapping up with an oil change as the last item. Went to install the drain plug, one of the anodized magnetic ones from LN Engineering. I had forgotten to check on the torque value for it, so my son (who was helping out) pulled out his phone, said "No problem, I'll check on it for you."
Well, he came up with the right value—but for the OEM original drain plug, 37 ft-lb. Without giving it a lot of thought (it had been a long day in the garage!), I dialed up 37 ft-lb and tightened it up.
Which raises the obvious question: Should I just leave it, or should I try to back it off slightly and attempt to torque it to the correct 19 ft-lb. I read in one thread on this forum where someone said they can be a bear to remove if over-torqued. I thought maybe it'd be easier to adjust it now rather than wait until the next oil change many months down the road.
