Aftermarket steering wheel with airbag

As mentioned in my project log, I had a annual inspection failure on the horn. Turned out it had the familiar issue of the horn switch in the 4-spoke steering wheel. It looks like I can get a new horn plate (the thing with the 4 rubber 'springs' which is the culprit) for over E 100 (or $100 for that matter). That seems a bit steep to fix a steering wheel which isn't very nice looking to start with.

So I see two other options;
- Upgrade to the Porsche 3 spoke wheel. They are very expensive on Ebay, but I do have some other resources I could look at. Main question: Does this suffer from the same horn issue?

- Put in an aftermarket steering wheel. A 3 spoke kind of wheel or one with a bit flattened bottom would work best for me, but I do want to retain the airbag. So are there any aftermarket steering wheels with good quality airbags for sale?

I can't answer you second question about aftermarket wheels with airbags but the 3 spoke wheel doesn't have the same issues as you 4 spoke one. It's been a long time since I had a '99 with the 4 spoke wheel but I remember fixing the plate problem with some rubber washers from a local hardware store. I can;t recall if I got the fix from this or another website. Try doing some deeper searching.....

Thanks JavPit. Already good to know that it is a 4-spoke issue. I did manage to fix the 4-spoke horn temporarily with some washers to get it through inspection. However, it already starts to act up from time to time again.

I like the way the t96 wheel by dct motorsports looks on ebay. These keep a factory airbag (which you'd have to purchase separately, or you can reach out to the company to see if they'd send you a full setup)

There is a much less expensive method for repairing the horn:

I have done this twice during my 17 years of ownership.

Good luck with your car.
