Replacing circuit board in key
 

My understanding is, if I replace just the 3 button circuit board in my remote that it will need programmed at a dealership? My main button had come off the circuit board, too small for me to solder a new one one I think.

The lock/unlock button detached from my Boxster's fob too. When I disassembled the fob, I found that the small metal cage that holds the button in place had deformed. After carefully bending the cage back into shape I was able to reattach the button, and it's worked just fine for me for several years.

If this fix doesn't work for you, it may be worthwhile to try to solder in a new button. That's what I had originally intended to do, and it really doesn't look like it would be that difficult. Of course, if you aren't able to fix your current fob you can always get a new one from your Porsche dealer.

Thank you, I found some on Amazon that look right, I don't have the fob with me so I don't know the dimensions of the switches.

Do you know how to solder electronics? It's really not too fine for the button. pretty simple.


I had a button off, soldered a new one on. Unfortunately my car lost the key, so i had to replace the fob.

A new remote pcb + programming will be $300 give or take, so take a swing at soldering first.

Do you have the part number for the switch handy?

The button to unlock the doors failed on one of my keys a month ago. In my search I found a kit to replace the three switches. There is also an old 986 thread from 2016 regarding this.

I can't speak to your vision, but it's fairly large for electronics. You can use an illuminated magnifying glass if that would help.

Went better than I thought! solder on new microswitch, replaced the top key cover piece and it all works, joy to have remote again!
