Late 987.2 Convertible top transmission swap to a 986?

I was able to source what I think is a pair of good transmissions from an '10 boxster and all the associated equipment (cables, lifting arms, tonneau shocks) apart from the motor and the mounting pins for the body. I have done some google research and some people say there is a transmission upgrade but I was not sure whether they were referring to the later 987 setup or some kind of upgraded 986 specific parts. From what I gathered it may be possible to swap the two but I read somewhere that you need the mounting pins that connect the transmission to the body as they are different or upgraded? Is there anything else I am needing? I rebuilt my transmission gears last year but never could get it synced correctly with the top (ball pivots kept popping off even after replacement). If this is a relatively simple swap I may give it a try and sell my spare 986 stuff.

Cannot answer your question regarding transmission, but maybe worth checking that before. They explicitly name the problem that, despite the setting, the heads always come off, from minute 12:00 onward.

I believe they updated the convertible top transmissions in 2003 when they went to a glass rear window. I believe this design was more robust, had one of the microswitches in one of the transmissions and could replace the original transmission in earlier cars. I'm not sure about using 987 transmissions in a 986.
