Evap cannister question

1999 Boxster. I got a P0446 code. One of the possibilities is a bad EVAP cannister. I'm trying to determine if my car is ORVR or not. Looking at my build codes under the hood, I have neither M660 or M664. Big difference in cannister costs. Anyone have an idea on where I can turn?
Oh, and regarding the P0446, other things to look at other than the cannister?

It could be the purge solenoid under the manifold. Do you have any other symptoms like difficulty fueling or hard to start after fueling when hot?

No difficulty fueling. I have had issues starting when it is warm, once in a while. I also have excessive vacuum on the gas cap when I open it after driving.

How do I determine which cannister I have?

You can call a Porsche dealer parts dept or pelican parts. They can decode it from your vin.

You probable have a failed evap solenoid. If you replace it get the Porsche part with the hose attached. Buying the solenoid separately is difficult to get sealed.

Before putting mine (98 Boxster) in winter storage I really topped off the tank. As I drove to the storage place I got the same code as you did, but placed it in storage assuming I would deal with it in the Spring and I cleared the CEL code anyway. (The canister part for my car was the more expensive $900 one).

Fast forward to this Spring. I've done nothing to the car except drive it for about 800 more miles and the DEL never came back.

Did the canister dry out? Did the excess fuel evaporate during the 4 months of storage?....comments from others suggested neither is the case.....BUT as long as the CEL remains off I'm good to go.

I SUGGEST.....you clear the code and just drive the car....who knows it might not light up again but if it does there are several parts (sensors & valves) in addition to the canister that could be your problem....i'd check those too....maybe first IF your car uses the much more expensive cannister.
