Groaning sound when turning wheel
Hi everyone
Here is a video of the problem I am experiencing. When I turn the steering wheel the steering column groans. It sounds like an old ship. https://youtu.be/JIRJPlNoQNI Any help is appreciated! |
Could be your strut bearing(s) Even if it's just one, you should replace both. Maybe it's time to replaces the struts at the same time.

Interesting. To me it sounds like it's related to the power steering. Does it persist when you do this after turning the engine off? If not, do you have fluid in the reservoir?

Interesting sound. Older BMWs (mainly E36) used to make such sound when the bushing in the steering column got worn out. Doesn't sound like power steering issue.
Also check both wheels for tight wheels and bearings. |
Thank you for your help.
The groaning persists with the engine off. Here is a video of the noise with the engine off: https://youtu.be/5uPQammvik0 Does this help confirm your suspicion? |

To me it sounds similar to this, thought not exactly, which is a bad strut bearing: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/sU9MiUWPIF8 |
