Steering Rack Replacement - Is Maval any Good?

I have play on the right side of my steering rack. The inner tie rods were fine and it is for sure inside the rack (not the bolts to the subframe). Has anyone replaced their steering rack? If so, what unit did you use? I've seen a few 996 videos where they used a remanufactured unit from Maval. Does anyone have experience with them?

I replaced mine a few years ago with a "refurbished" unit from ebay. Mine was leaking. Turned out the replacement leaked as bad or worse. Likely the only refurbising was cleaning and spray paint. A few months later I picked up a used one and put it in. No leaks in five years.

Maval is a legit company with a decent reputation. You should do all right.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I jumped the gun last night and bought a low mileage one on eBay that they said they had road tested and warranty for 90 days. Comes with new looking tie rods. Fingers crossed for no play and no leaks! $130 shipped.

Well, shoot! The used rack is a leaker and going back. Took off the right tie rod boot and it was absolutely coated in power steering fluid ☹️
