My car has a morbid sense of humor

I've driven my new (to me) 200 Boxter about 1300 miles now. Near the end of my first long trip (roundtrip 300 miles) the AOS let go 2 blocks from home. When preparing to replace the AOS I discovered that I had wheel locks, but no key. Figuring out how to work around it, I got the car fixed and back on the road.

Today, while not paying as much attention as I should, I screwed up on the clutch and killed the engine at a traffic light. I restarted and immediately got a flashing CEL (major problem, eh?) I couldn't pull off immediately and drove several blocks to pull off the road. By the time I stopped, the CEL had stopped flashing and went into constant mode.

I drove to my destination about 10 minutes away with the car surging at idle, running badly, and sounding like it had a miss. I shut it down and on impulse restarted the car.

Voila! The car started right up, sounded smooth, and the CEL light was out. The drive home (30 miles) was uneventful.

What is my car trying to tell me?

This could be a lot of things. You need to hook up to a diagnostic and pull codes.

The diagnostic indicates no problems.

Fix'd It's identified issues just fine in the past.

Flashing light, solid light, goes away is typical for an engine kill scenario. Maybe those pesky German engineers never took an engine kill scenario into consideration and doing so confuses the electronics? Who knows, but it clears up and everything is fine.

I think between this and the AOS failure you have 2 disparit data pts that can't be used to draw any conclusions about the personality of your Box.

Thanks for the reassurance. I thought my car may just be taunting me.

Did a 40 miles trip yesterday without issues.
