Adjusting Shifter Cables- Suddenly too long?
Hi I am trying to adjust the shifter cables on my 1999 boxster 5 speed. The only way to describe it is that it felt squishy when trying to put it in 3rd and 5th. This happened after driving like a clown and doing donuts in a parking lot so I think I knocked something loose. Took apart the center console and pulled on the black cable. Now it seems that the cable is too long when the transmission and shifter are in neutral. Any advice? I'm not sure what to do.

Fixed it haha. The black shifter cable popped out of its clip on the transmission side. Popped in back in and we’re back in business.

You might want to put a zip tie around your cables. This is a somewhat common failure for the cable to pop out. You can replace the clips but that sometimes isn’t good enough.
