This picture shows my 997 (meanwhile mounted ~4 years ) but I used the same mesh and fixing on the 986 because there was actually enough left of the grille. I'm not going to get into the discussion about whether it makes sense to retrofit the grille that porsche forgot there because it's too stupid for me. There is not a single disadvantage retrofitting them.

Those look a lot better than the Zunsport ones. The ones mounted on the outside, although easier, look like an afterthought.

Absolutely. And as mentioned before, for a proper cleaning of the radiators you (imho!) need to remove the bumper, no way to clean both of the radiators in a proper way without doing it. So no real advantage on the outside.
