Check Engine - Evap system leak detected - list of fixes?

Hi, Ive got a 2007 Boxster with 102k miles. The check engine light went on and I was get the error code: Evaporative Emission Control system leak detected

The last thing I want to do it take it in to the dealership, I know this be hard to pin down and they would x10 charge me for every step along the way to finding it, so I trying to address it myself.

A great poster here suggested that I replace the gas cap, and clean the metal filler neck's "lip" , which I did and then I cleared the error, but it came right back.

So what else can I try? Is there a sensor that I can replace? If you had this error, how did you fix it? Is there a series of fixes in order of most likely cause?

What was the code number the scanner produced?

Hi JFP
The error code is:
P0455 Powertrain - Evaporative Emission Control system leak detected

So far I have replaced the gas cap and the error still came back.
I also plan to replace spark plugs.
I'm considering replacing the Canister Purge Valve Solenoid
Is here a sensor that could be the culprit? And a hose?

There was another thread on Rennlist about this and a picture process of the guy diagnosing it to a cracked fuel sender. Something that isnt entirely easy to find with a smoke test. If you have the ability to check that, id recommend doing so.

You have been chasing your tail; P0455 indicates an electrical short at the EVAP canister purge valve, either the valve itself or the harness. You need to run short diagnostics on both before spending even more money swapping parts.
