Well that was short lived....
I loved this car.
I bought it about 2 weeks ago and made a couple of posts. It had 12500 miles on it and the car was pristine. Hard top, car cover, every single book and pamphlet and the original window sticker. Underneath was as clean as the top. Interior was perfect. Not anymore. Some lady just T-Boned me. I think she's totaled . I hope so as I dont want it back repaired. Before and after.... http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1726106940.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1726106987.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1726107106.jpg |
That honestly sucks SO much. the miles alone would make me want to rebuild it back up to be honest. I couldn't even imagine that happening to mine with over 100k miles. The car looks absolutely amazing, I hope to see any progress off this post. Im not sure if youre still actively in AZ but I am and honestly these drivers can be somethin else sometimes

Ive had 3 1st gen Boosters and every time I sold them I was sorry I had. Told the wife I was gonna keep this one forever. I dont think so. Next year I am going to buy a Spyder I just dont know what gen yet. Ill be back though. In the meantime if I find another gen 1 that I think is special I might buy that too. |
That sucks! You gonna part it out or take the insurance check?

As far as parting it out, I am not a shop or a salvage yard.
I do not have time nor desire nor even the space to perform that. I dont know what the insurance company will say yet, but if its totaled I will take my money and move on. It's a shame, everything is like brand new....the seats, the truck, the frunk....not a spot. Engine ran strong, trans shifted good. That's all why I bought it in the first place. Ill keep everyone updated. Ill find another one. Edit...Plus keeping a crashed out car is bad ju-ju. |

I'm sorry this happened to you. There are obviously a lot of people who shouldn't be driving.
On the positive side: 1. It sounds like you are okay which is the most important factor. 2. The Boxster seems to provide good protection in a side-impact crash. (That is one of the reasons I sold my Miata and bought a Boxster. The Boxster seemed to be a more substantial car.) 3. The hardtop seems to have come through the experience unscathed. I suggest that you post a for sale listing in the classifieds or save it for your next 986. |
First, we're all glad you were not injured.
Secondly a little advice: I'm pretty sure either a paintless dent repair shop or someone with a good buffer can bring it back to original... then again, maybe not. Hope the insurance pays you what that beautiful car is worth. Larry (The Bald Eagle) |
Sorry for your loss, it looks like it was in great shape before the hit. As a couple others mentioned, it would be good to grab a few of the parts from it before it goes to a salvage auction, especially if you plan on buying another.
Parting out a car yourself takes a lot of time and space. I totally understand not keeping it. Edit - Consider keeping: center caps, hard top, easy to remove trim pieces that are in good shape, floor mats, Tool Kit, Spare tire(?), ... |

My buddy with a truck wasnt available and I wasnt going to rent one. lol |
I might buy it from you for a little more than insurance buyback cost. I’m up in PHX and would part it.
Sorry for your loss |

It's painful for me to see this! Mine got smacked 8 years ago in the rear quarter panel and the other drivers insurance paid for a new one. Yours is obviously a lot more damage. My heartfelt condolences.
|
Im really bummed.
The car was almost museum quality shape and I planned on keeping it forever. I already miss it. I happened to find the car locally to me and I think I paid a fair price. I have no doubt State Farm will take care of me as they always have in the past but as you all know, finding these cars in this kind of condition/miles is getting harder and harder. I know Im not going to find another one locally. Ill let everyone know how things work out with the settlement etc. |
Definitely Sorry to see that..there was a early model car for sale here ,..silver over Blk...? Frank
|
I’m sorry that happened to you. Idiot drivers are a blight on society.
|
My condolences as well. Maybe you’ll get lucky and snag a nice 550!

This has been all over social Media lately with boxster groups.. all kinds of theories on what happened .. .. i guess someone snapped a pic and posted it.
Just glad no one was hurt... end of the day it is just stuff. |

It has soooooo much power that I drifted the side into the front of another car on a 2 lane rural road going straight. Any moron could have seen what happened. The other car was there as well, parked about 20 ft away. My car was behind it and around the corner to the upper left in the pic. Pics of the other car. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1727375474.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1727375518.jpg |
Other car blew a stop sign and t-boned me at the intersection. I had no stop sign. That's it.

That sucks, evo. I hope the insurance company will do right by you. Sadly, I doubt it. Blue book won't come close to what that car was really worth.

The outcome is looking good and once certain things get settled I will relate some details. |
Update
Some folks have reached out inquiring about what it would cost to buy this back from the insurance company. Lots of very low mile pristine parts. I should know in a couple of days. |

Well I inquired on what the buy back price on the wrecked Boxster and they told me like 4700 bucks.
If I had the space Im sure I could make money off that, a 12500 mile car.. Heck the tires and rims are perfect. 3 of them anyway. If anyone is interested in the car for parts let me know. I might sell the hard top separate. So here's what happened with the ins co... They tried to get me to take 13500. I said no way. I sent them 3 comps but there really weren't any comps as far as miles/condition etc...I told them just work off the bill of sale I just bought it a few weeks ago.... Nope. He said he's calling in a 3rd party appraiser since there really were not any direct comps. I figured they were looking to screw me. The appraisal came in 6700 dollars more than I paid for it. I took that money and bought a very low mile clean 2001 Boxster S. TBC |

Excellent outcome for a very unfortunate situation. The important thing is that you were not hurt either physically or financially. Hope you enjoy many miles and smiles with your new car.
