Try driving w/o the sound deadening
Well after diagnosing my car for the recent CEL I put the car in service position. After I did the dirty work to fix the CEL(find my other post) I was going to take the car out for a spin. When I was putting the engine cover back on I decided to just leave it at that,no sound deadening panel or rear speaker kit on top of it. Man that was awesome listening to the engine above 4k!!!!!! Next time you have it in service position just take it for a spin before you put everything back together, trust me it's awesome! :D

Wow, yer right, I need to try that! Are you getting a breeze of heated air coming in from the right side intake around the engine and out the top at all? I'd wonder if the plastic window is in danger of warping at all from the heat.
BTW, in case you want a reason to have it that way all the time... http://www.adrenalineautomotive.com/ -David |

Yer right, my brain had a momentary relapse to a conversation I had yesterday after removing my engine cover to diagnose a weird engine sound. What you suggested sounds much more reasonable, although I'm amazed it makes that much of a difference. If so, then certainly worth trying...

After some work under the cover, I left the engine cover off for a couple of weeks. The heat dissipates long before it affects the plastic window. We are of course speaking about the top being up. I took a couple of friends for rides during that time to let them hear the sound and they just grinned from ear to ear. It absolutely screams!!

Hmm, I tried it with just the engine cover today and top down, didn't seem to notice much extra sound. I can imagine with the engine cover off I'll definitely notice, but the drives I'd like to have it are the ones where I have the top down.
I noticed without the speakerbox the plastic sits right on the engine cover. Has anyone tried engine cover off and top down, and know if the plastic window would take any damage/grime after extended use? Sadly, my six-year-old plastic is in absolute flawless condition, so I'm reluctant to take any risks:( -David |
wow that cover is kool
