986 oil temp/level sensor replacement

My 2001 S oil temp sensor was not working so I took off the resonance tube and the throttle body. I got the old sensor loose with a 19 mm wrench and pulled it out. I had to bend it to get it free of the intake manifold. It broke. Is there any way to install the new sensor without removing the manifold? I assume that the old one was brittle after 23 years and 188,000 miles. Can I warm the new sensor to make it more flexible? Has anybody done this? Also found a vacuum leak on the flapper shaft bearing on the resonance tube.

No, one side at least has to come off.

I just loosened mine without removing it completely. You can shift it over a bit to get the sensor in. Take care not to drop anything into the intake.

Thanks I think there are only 6 bolts that need to come out. did you have to remove or disconnect anything else. Getting to the manifold is a bit harder since I installed a glass window top. I think I'll take the cowling off to get more exposure.

I didn't take anything else off the manifold. Just the bolts that hold it down. I too have the glass top. It's tight in there but still managable.
