Variocam solenoid repair

I've read lots of posts concerning this repair but haven't seen anyone discuss removing the subframe to work on bank one. Local shop is telling me they need to. Can anyone give me some insight on this?

I would suggest you get a second opinion on that one, the Vario Cam components are under the cam cover, which can be removed without the removal of any subframe or suspension elements.
