Smart Alec answer...
How fast have I driven my Boxster??? The smart alec answer version: "door unlocked, top down, jumped in seat, left hand on ignition key, left foot on clutch, right foot on accelerator, right hand on gear shifter, took off in under 1.2 seconds... That's how fast I can drive my Boxster!

140 down the front straightaway at The Glen. Ed

160/158 Mph
I have had the RS 60 up to 160 on the speedo but the GPS only recorded 158 as the top speed.
That was all she had even though Porsche specs it out faster. I am very fortunate that I have a place to do this type of driving. Close to where I live, there is a 7 mile section of road that runs around a small curvey mountain for 1.7 miles and then flattens out for 5 miles of the smoothest, straightest road I have ever seen.. There is a lake on both sides of the road with guardrails for the entire 5 mile section....no side roads, no possibility of an animal strike and NO OTHER TRAFFIC. The road is used by the TVA to access a hyydroelectric dam. I usually make a run down at normal speed to check the road and look for any hazards. At the end of the 7 miles, I turn around and turn it loose. I have been wringing cars and bikes out on this road for 30 years.....'79 Stage 3 Herb Adams Trans Am was my first real runner to my 2008 Boxster with many very fast cars in between and I can say without reservation that the Boxster handles at these speeds as well or better than anything I have ever driven. |
I've done about 125 with the top down. thought i was gonna lose the wind deflector. started flapping really loud. did u all remove it before goin that fast or am i just chicken?
|
My 986 S will do over 160 and that's all I'm going to say.
|
105, and it was only in my garage for a night, haha.
|
I've had my Boxster pretty fast, but not as fast as my other car. In other words, I'm not going to say anything that will incriminate me.
The car is for the track though. I agree with those who've said that the car is not about straight line speed. It's about the twisties. That's why I love taking it to the track where I can really drive it the way it's meant to be driven. |
I have had mine up to 109mph twice once top up and once top down. When you adjust for the inaccurate Porsche Speedo I was most likely actually going about 38mph.
|
93..... still learning the car.
So I have stayed out of triple digits... for now. |
166 MPH prior to installing the lwfw, udp, and ecu reflash (mind you my girlfriend was in the car on both accounts). 147 MPH with the top down and without the above modifications installed. Ideally, I am confident in obtaining 170 MPH.
*Mind you this was conducted outside the confines of the United States of America in a controlled enviroment* |
114, top down. I580.
|
125 down the back straight at Sebring. Should be able to get that a bit higher when I learn to take turn 16 a bit faster and brake a bit later into 17.
Honestly going flat out is not as fun as taking the twisties at much less speed. Give me turn 7 at 50mph over the back straight at Sebring any day! |
156 (GPS Verified - Speedo was showing 165) in Germany.

About a week after I got my S, my son suggested we take a run to Vegas. We were buzzing along an almost empty freeway out of Barstow when I decided to pass this "slow" guy in front of me. After passing him, I glanced down and we were doing 126! YIKES! I would never intentionally drive that fast with my kid in the car, I just wasn't used to how smooth the car is at speed. Felt like we were doing 50.

270 kmh on highway in Germany, recorded by Garmin GPS

This thread is pathetic, the real question is how fast have you driven your boxster BACKWARDS.
Just kidding around, I think 90 is about tops for me. I would drive as fast as the car can go on the track but here in the countryside you have to watch out for deer as a hood ornament and I like the way my head fits on my body. |
125 between Vegas and Los Angeles on the 15.
|
Top Speed
135 m.p.h. on Rte.8 on way to Lime Rock Ct.
JDBOXSTER |
121 mph on the I - 20 between Columbia & Charleston SC.W/ the top down . When I told my wife of the speed we were travling, she replied is that all...
|
An indicated 125 on the back straigh at Mid-OH; I'm thinking it was just tad optimistic.
Roscoe--how come you don't drive that fast at the track? :) --just kidding.. |
127 MPH on the back straight at Road Atlanta.. The car was starting to lift off the ground going down the hill into 10A. Thats with a 230 HP 2.5 liter engine.
My Wife is currently .45 MPH from a Land Speed Record with my 996 at 149.281 MPH recorded at Maxton NC back in September. |
Hi freaks,
Nice to here from you all and amazed while noting the speedz.. Good to see all were ok even its too much speed anyways let me know one thing how about driving Porsche 911 with the speed 120mph.. Is it ok to drive in that speed I got a problem with the torque. Its soundz horrible.. Isn't it.. Drive safe. James. . |
Don't have a Boxster yet. However, the fastest I've ever been in my car is it's electronically limited 115. But, that was when I was 16, I've slowed down a little bit. Fastest I've ever been is riding shotgun in my cousin's 03 Z06 at around 150.

Looking in the mirror and there was a little red dot in the distance (the mx5). Laughing to myself like a mad man I slowed down, heart pumping and amazed at how fast, and more scary was how easy it is to drive fast without knowing it. The hood was down too. I then cruised all the way home under 70 and haven't been much over 80 ever since. I did learn one lesson from this though. Wear a cap! My first day out in the Box and I had half a sun burned face and looked a pillock. If anybody wants to race me I let them past now...knowing that you can probably beat them if you want is a wonderful thing. |
It's all about having all four tires at the proper slip angle!!!
126 in a drift on US 280 outside Jackson's Gap, Alabama. Came out of the last turn and saw the road straighten out ahead over several little rises. Looked down, noted the now 128 and stood on the brakes down a little hill. No sense risking a major ticket just going straight. Came over next rise at about 75 (speed limit was 70) to an Alabama State Trooper sitting on the left side of the road. I gave him a little friendly wave, like I was enjoying an afternoon cruise and he ignored me. Stopped at next gas station to clean out underwear!!! :-) I am very pleasantly surprised that the low speed understeer goes away at speed. The car was very comfortably nuetral. |

The above stipulations still apply, this is the only proof I have of going anywhere near the stated speed of 166 MPH. At the time I did not have a LWFW, UDP, ECU, 997 TB, or IPD intake plenum installed. |
110 in 35 zone and it took just a few seconds.

Mid 130MPH territory for me; I don't watch the speedo so I couldn't say for sure; could be a little more but I know the car still has more in her when I get off the throttle.
We're fortunate enough in the Chicagoland area to have several good tracks nearby to really enjoy these cars as they were meant to be driven, but my Boxster doesn't have the horsepower to top out, even on Road America's mile long straightaway... My only 'gripe' would be the brakes. While they are definitely superb for street use, I plan to upgrade them at some point for better consistency on the track. |
I read this post a few years ago but didn't have it in me to push it to the limits on American roads. Then I moved to Germany. The other day it went up to 300 kph (186 mph). The needle was pegged, but that's what the digital speedo indicated.

137 mph was it for me , you need a lot more room to move up in mph from that point.
|
Just over 140. It's a 2.5, so you need plenty of space once you're above 130.
