How often do you add oil?

I have a 2006 Boxster S and I have put 11,000 miles on it. I've had to add oil twice...a quart each time...and it looks like I'll be adding a third in the next 1000 or so. Is this normal? Seems like a lot.

Oil Usage

I have a 2006 Boxster and so far have added 1/2 quart in 9587 miles.
In speaking with the service department at Walter's they informed me that they use some oil but many factors go into account on the amount needed. Do not have an answer as to why?

I dunno about the 987, but my 02 986 S hasn't needed a drop since it's last change at 30K. It's coming up on it's 45k service, probably this week.

2 quarts in almost 11k miles is a more than I would expect though. You might want to take it in for a check-up.

In the past year I havent had to add any oil and its my daily driver too. I did break the oil filler tube when I installed the SC kit but I dont feel that should count. So none. I drive roughly 15k a year.

I have a 06S with about 10,000 miles and have added oil three times. The last when I put the car away for the winter. Porsche dealer said this was normal depending on how you drove the car. Highway vs city.

I remember reading/hearing somewhere that 1qt every 5-6k miles is considered normal for Porsches. I added 1/2 quart to my new 06 S (bought in May) after the 2k mile break-in (I also read/heard that oil consumption would be increased during break-in) and haven't needed any extra until the oil change before winter storage at 5k miles. Would be curious to hear what others have experienced.

I heard that too but I have 7,500 miles and haven't used a drop. At first I couldn't believe it and started checking and rechecking the oil. Making sure it was on a flat surface, etc. LOL Then I relaxed and accepted it. I still check underneath a lot for the dreaded RMS. LOL

The only time I've had to add oil between changes was when the oil separator was going bad. Other than that, never added any.

BTW, be careful when filling. In the 2000, the second to top line is full and the top line is over-filled. Check your manual (or look closely at the guage) and make sure you're filling it to the right line.

Mine's a '97 with 19,000 miles. Never had to add any between changes.

One more oil level thing to remember is that one should check the oil after the car has been sitting (not running) for a half hour or first thing in the morning when you go out to the car (before you turn over the engine).

The digital display is quite accurate if used properly. Before I knew each bar represented a cup of oil, I was dumping in a half quart and overfilling it, but not realizing it because I wasn't letting it sit with the engine off for 30 minutes to check the level.

Word up.

I've never had to add oil to by boxster, I change the oil every 10k miles and its never gotten alittle low. The oil meter will APPEAR to be low if Im parked on a slanted or sloped road but if the boxster is level, the oil meter reads "full". BTW I have 102,222 miles to date on my boxster, original Engine and Transmission.

I have over 57,000 miles on my 01 and have driven it in every mode possible and generally hard since day 1 (WOT shifting above 6500). I always make sure it's warmed up (around 10 miles) before going above 3500 rpms.

The oil has never left the full mark between yearly oil changes (10,000 to 15,000 miles).

Baby it, it will make you suffer.

I added about 1/2 quart last year at about the 6,500 mile mark.
