Cool idea for winter floor matts
I was looking at some new floor matts and looking into an upgraded rear trunk Matt and saw this:

Those look like they would be slippery when icy or wet. And, where would melted snow water go? I think you need something with a raised edge and groves.

I guess that's what the nubs are for, like on racing pedals. if you are industrious it would be a good project to stick a layer of felt over the plastic and
cut out a few rows of the nubs. |

PL, something like this, I think, would be better:
http://www.weathertech.com/store/vehsearch.asp?item_group_id=3&make_id=43&year_no=2 004&veh_id=575&veh_opt_choice_id=0 I have similar mats in my Truck (winter only) and wife's Mercedes (year round). They are great. Keeps your feet dry and your pant cuffs dry too. |
it looks nubby on the top and spiky on the carpet side. I've had it in previous cars but instead of nubs ontop it came with horizontal ridges and wasn't custom cut to fit the floor matts.

I have these in a couple of our cars. They have nubs on the back to hold them into the carpeted mat, and a textured pattern on the front that holds onto the water/snow from wet shoes and keeps them from being slippery. I've never had a problem with my feet sliding around.

Hi,
If anyone is interested, I have a used set of Savannah Beige OEM floormats which would be ideal for use as Winter Mats. They are not torn but have a couple small stains on them which is why I swapped them out. But, since Winter mats get dirty anyway, they're ideal for this purpose. I store my car so have no need for them. If anyone is interested, PM me, $15 + S/H and they're yours... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
