Clutch longevity..?
 

A Box friend of mine and I were talking the other night about the longevity (or lack thereof) of the clutch. So I'm curious, what's the most milage you've wrung out of the original clutch?

So I did, before posting, but didn't find anything in particular for Boxster clutches (but of some reason a lot of references to other cars). Any pointers appreciated.

I'm on my 2nd clutch that has 30k on it and is still pulling very strong,the first only lasted 25k.

This lady that comes into my job has 160k on her original clutch.

I had 52K on the original clutch, and when I replaced it, it was worn down to the rivets and the flywheel was scored.

46K, and still on my original clutch. I have a couple of Boxster buds with 100K plus on their original clutch. It really depends on how you drive it. You can ruin a clutch in 1-day if you abuse it.

84K and about to change it, but not because the clutch disc is worn. The release bearing is making nasty, squeaky sounds so I'm doing the whole thing once instead of in pieces.

I know this subject has been covered before, but I am a real gimp when it comes to cars and I never have yet to see a sufficient answer to my question. How would I know if it is time to replace my clutch? What should I be looking for?

If you are in gear, press the gas pedal and the engine speed goes up but the car doesn't accelerate, the clutch is worn. It's usually most obvious in higher gears first.

OK, this should be tell-tale sign of a very worn clutch. Are there any early warning signs?

The clutch gets harder to push. But there's no need to change it until it's slipping.
