Porsche Classic Gear Oil
Is this stuff magic enough for the Base 5-speed?
It creates doubts when they don't distinguish between Base 5-speed and S 6-speed. Mentioned in passing it was time for gear oil change on my '01 Base to mechanic doing a new motor mount and when I returned he had done the oil change, too. Of course it almost won't shift at all in cold weather before warmup and I need to get something better in there. Is there a source for DIY quantity of the right stuff or do I need to see dealer? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1701194126.jpg |
Royal Purple
That's what I used.

I’m using what JFP recommends.

Got the bad stuff out and good stuff in yesterday.
Shifting now great. Thanks for the discussion and advice. Thanks also to Sunset Porsche. |

Here's the weird thing for me. I used the 000-043-305-49 Porsche fluid on a recent change, now the transmission is more reluctant to easily shift when it's cold (ambient) or not warmed up. Admittedly I cannot recall if it exhibited the same with low ambient temperatures before, maybe it did much to my empty recollection. During the other weekend's HPDE in Savannah it was 25 in the mornings and it was rather hesitant to shift.
Once the engine/trans warm up it's good to go. I did follow the Bentley manual on the filling procedure to avoid overfill. |
I would use the Mobil 1 Synthetic GL-5 oil. I’m sure the Porsche branded oil is good too but probably not any better than the cheaper Mobil stuff.
