Convertible top will not go up...

I spent most of the afternoon troubleshooting why the top will no longer go up, watching YT vids, and searching various threads concerning the issue on the web. The center microswitch seems to be working fine as the windows will go up all the way if I trick the switch into thinking the top is fully closed. The relay seems to be fine as well as the top motor will briefly for a half second go forward/reverse before stopping. I removed the the convertible top drive cables and clamshell and I suspect the problem is either the motor has gone bad (seems kind of sudden as it was fine previously) or what I think is more likely is the micro switch at the rear is acting up and/or failing as it seemed I was able to get slightly more action from the motor when I wiggled the wires slightly. Anything else I should look at and are there any particular instructions somewhere for testing this microswitch? The car is a 2000 model so it has the later top setup with the microswitch moved to the motor area instead of the B pillar.
