Rear control arm broke on the driver side rear wheel during a slow speed turn. Rear end steered into concrete barrier, contacted it and tore up the rim, rear bumper. The control arm snapped in half...I was rear ended a year ago and wonder if the control arm was damaged and the damage was not caught during the post fix inspection. I am very lucky I was not driving like a usually drive.

With the control arm being broken...what should I be concerned about? I imagine I will need a alignment for starters. What about the drivetrain being torqued? I just want to be smart when I start asking the adjuster/auto shop the questions.

Bad week: I have the flu, my grandfather died, and I wrecked my car. Things come in three's, so I think I should be good for a little while. :cheers:

and can't you try and take it up with the dealership who didn't catch the rear control arm, should be some what there fault...

That's sucks. Push for a totaling. Its a sports car not a family cruise ship.

My bud had a really bad week once too. He crashed in a bicycle race and lost some teeth, he came home and the fire department told him his apartment building had to be flooded due to a fire and to go find another apartment, and the icing on the cake was the next day his Miata being flattened by a Sequioa while it was parked in front of his house.

but a death in the family brings it all in perspective, things can be replaced some can not.

sorry to hear about your week. which control arm broke? the one with the ball joint or the one that runs along the car? i wouldn't worry about the drivetrain being torqued. you'll need to check the other control arm under there to see if it's bent or cracked. check the strut to make sure it's not bent. check for cracks in the subframe that the control arm mounts to. replace the strut top-mount, as this type of injury will usually tear up the mounting rubber. chekc the toe steer link to make sure it's not bent / cracked. and, of course, get it aligned. can you post any pics?

Personally I would NEVER buy a rear or mid engine car that had been in anything other than a slight front end collision. Having to explain extensive body/mechanical repairs to a prospective buyer is not something you want to go through, particularly on a car meant to be driven fast and may see track time.
Get a lawyer if necessary.

Since your car is under 2 years old, shouldnt the warranty from the dealer completely take care of this.. and if your car is totaled, should they give you a new car?

You know, C.J., I was thinking the same thing but surmised I was wrong because the lawyers haven't jumped in.

A part that was under warranty failed, causing Rail to lose control and kiss a concrete barrier. Isn't Porsche on the hook for this? And if so, doesn't your neck hurt dude?

Thanks for the thoughts and condolensces (sp?). I am not sure Porsche would be responsible for the control arm because quite honestly I think it was damaged in the first crash. The car has been excellent and I have had no problems. When I get a hold of the adjuster I will definately bring up that fact. Unfortunately, I will never be able to get rid of this car. Even though there has not been any structural damage, the car has now been in two accidents. The first involving the rear end (new exhaust and bumper) and the second involving the rear bumper and control arm.

I won't be able to post pics. I head off to the funeral tomorrow (Chicago) and then back down to South America for the next 3 weeks. Once again, thanks for all the support. I will let you know how the claim turns out.

JeffSquire: I actually flew tonight...not a good idea. Wasn't 100%. Night flight with a 22 kt crosswind 9 miles downwind of 7000 ft mountains. Not pleasant by any means. Getting bounced around in a 47,000lb airplane is not fun...moderate turb with forecasted severe.
