Steering Wheel (non) Adjustment

Recently acquired a 97 Boxster. I'm unable to adjust the steering column. I got underneath the dash and I can see the pin pushing in when moving the lever, but the wheel does not budge. What's the best plan of attack for getting the column freed up and moving again?

If you are talking about the in/out movement, I think that that adjustment is used so seldomly that the wheels are frozen in place on many cars. I got the wheel on one of the cars I have worked on to move by forcefully yanking and pushing on it, but it was still stiff to move.

Yep, I'm talking about the in/out movement. I'm constantly trying to move it, putting as much force as I dare, for fear of bending the steering wheel. I've tried tapping the column with a hammer. Although, I admit, there's only a small spot accessible and I don't even know if that's where it moves from. I'm thinking about taking the steering wheel and lower trim pieces off and spraying PB Blaster in every little space I can find. Maybe I'll just have to live with it as it is.

Had the same problem. Issue fixed. Read the owners manual for proper operation!

Not at all patronising!

I have the same issue, luckily with my 30 years of driving experience and owning two previous mid 90s Porsches I know about the lever.

Please point to the part in the instructions that told you how to fix it when the lever moves fine but the wheel does not pull forward.

Where are you seeing the pin move? i have the same issue where its stuck - and can't find a solution!

I've kind of given up on getting mine to move. If you get yours moving, let me know how you did it.

My steering wheel adjustment has never worked on my 2005 SE, but I was inspired by this thread to give it another shot. Yesterday I lowered the adjustment lever and then shook the steering wheel toward me and away with some force, but rattling it fore and aft. Suddenly it moved and now it works. No up and down adjustment, but definitely moves toward and away from me.

Fortunately, the wheel adjustment works fine on my 98. I can't speak for other years but mine is ONLY designed to move in/out not up/down too. Instead, for up down I use the seat lever to raise and lower the seat which also tends to move the seat closer or farther at the same time.

With a little trial and error it becomes comfortable and good for me.
