Strange metallic engine noise from Boxster

I have a noise coming from the engine near the bellhousing,it is a metallic sound, it sounds like something came loose and is banging around in there-maybe the clutch or flywheel? Thanks in advance

Hey, this was put on here by rich I bought the car from him. The car drove great parked it and the next day the car made a horrible engine sound.

We also disconnected the belt and ran it for a few seconds and the sound was still there. We wanted to eliminate water pump, alternator, air conditioning etc.

Souds scary... like something is loose / slooping around inside the crank case. Piston slap, con-rod bearing done, chain tensioner broke at the crank to IMS, ...

Then something smaller issue, is the oil pressure fine. Could be the one of the scavenger pumps had gone bad due to some foreign material entering to the pump.

Just guessing, but sound is scary

I wouldn't run it like that for long, but for diagnostic purposes I'd poke around with a stethoscope and try to narrow down where it's coming from. It doesn't sound like a rod knock or piston issue to me, though.

If it is indeed coming from the bell housing, it could be that a loose clutch bolt or spring broke off and it's rattling around in there much like something in the dryer.

Thank for the help, 2 days before I ran the car aggressive and the clutch felt weird but engine was great. Next day I picked my son up from school and idled it for 20 minutes waiting then drove home…only a few blocks clutch seamed weird clunky and parked and the next day had a high pitched sound with a clunk…I had a friend who made the video look at it and said sound feels like it’s coming from the bell housing clutch…he thought broken dual mass fly wheel or clutch(he is a VW /Audi mechanic) but has never worked on a porsche…any recommendations of an Indy repair shop near Lansing Michigan? Thank you very much

By the way the IMS was replaced 10k miles or so ago with a pelican pel- IMS-1

I also have another video from the outside the day after I drove it when I statered it. I’ll have it put on here. Thank you

Oil pressure was good…

hard to tell what is going on -- get a boroscope and a magnet and see if you can tell if
anything has fallen between the bellhousing and the block. Maybe a flywheel bolt backed out?

Worst case -- pull the tranny -- if its a motor issue -- you'll need to pull the tranny anyways.

Thank you I have a guy that’s going to look at it and I’ll tell him to do that. I’ll let you know what happens.

Replaced clutch & fly wheel and it’s in the engine 🥲

Does anyone know a shop in Michigan that can diagnose and fix? Thank you
