Easy Hack, Trunk Release Cable
 

I was taking my headlights out so I could resmoke the turn signals and I saw the trunk release cable just chillin out. I remembered an old post about moving it to the tow hole so I just grabbed the cable and moved it to the tow hole. I had to fish a paper clip in the hole and pull it through. Its pretty hard. You pretty much have to get the tip of the cable near the opening because it will never go through sideways. So, in short, take out your passenger side headlight, grab your cable, aim it at the tow hole, pull it through, and put the cap back on. Its infinately easier than taking your bumper off and it only takes about 2 minutes. A very good insurance policy if I must say so. Try it!

where is the cable in relation to the tow hole-- up? down? left? right?

Mine was up and towards the headlight.

Depending on the MY of your Boxster, the trunk release may be manual or electronic.

If it is electronic and your battery goes dead, you cannot open the trunk and get to the battery.

By re-routing the trunk release cable, you could open your trunk and get to the battery even if the you have no power.

Hi , I found a cable on the inside of the front right wheel housing in front of the plastic lining that's behind the headlight easily accessible by removing about 3 screws and 2 plastic rivet clips from the lining.

I reached in pulled on the cable and surprise the front hood opened. The same thing in the back left wheel housing behind the lining. Are these cables on all boxsters or was it just the previous owner who thought of this incredible idea.

They resembled bicycle cables with a loop at the end for pulling.

Thats the emergency release, we all have them. Im thinking you just got to the cable from earlier on its length (wheel well), and I found it on the end of its length (near headlight).

MMD/Dan and I came up with this "hack" about 5 years ago.

At Ed's condo in Campbell. After a BBQ. I wanted to use a coat hanger but there were none. So I got out Ed's BBQ tool and fished out the cable to the tow hook cover. Ever since then I have a coat hanger in my front trunk.

I have a 98 boxster and need to manually release the REAR trunk decklid boot.

Help, electronics got wet and the of course the silinoids I need to clean/replace are in the trunk
