Oil filter socket/wrench
Hi guys, bought this filter wrench from rock auto for my 986 and it’s too small. Part number 61560. It says 74/76mm, but it just doesn’t fit. Anyone have a link to a known good filter wrench. Their magnetic drain plug also didn’t fit, but that’s not an issue as I’ll use the stock one.
It was my first change on this new to me 04 and I already drained the oil so I’m either going to have to leave the old filter on until the next change or change it with oil in the car…if that’s even possible.
Thx

I don't remember the size of the wrench, but you can remove the filter without losing a significant amount of oil. Just a few drips and whatever is in the filter housing.
Not much help, but some info: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/02-BASICS-Oil_Change/02-BASICS-Oil_Change.htm

Thx, I ordered the socket from pelican. A bit pricey, but hopefully this one fits. I’ll just take the filter off, replace it and add a little oil.

I used my cup set I got from Harbor Freight many years ago. It has worked on many cars, and it was very cheap. They don't have that set any longer, but this seems similar to it:

It's the German standard 74mm, 14 flats.
I've had my Stahlwille tool since the 1990s and use it on Mercedes, Porsche, and BMW motorcycle. Used also on VW TDI, which I no longer have.

Agree. I have one for a Mercedes and it fits the 986.
