Oxidation at Windscreen Trim

OK, the "Titainium" trim around the front windscreen on my 2002 S is oxidized. I already have a local dealer who says he will replace it under warantee. He also says I will get a new front windscreen as a result of this operation as the R&R will likely crack the existing windscreen. I will be taking him up on his offer soon. I ran into another owner at a differant dealer (who by the way refused to replace it under warantee) and she said this is a common problem with the 986 and she had had hers replaced 3 times! She also said that Porsche offers a non metalic black rubber replacement that will of course never rust. Any comments on this issue???

I'm trying to figure out what you mean by front windscreen...

When people risk their lives, shouldn't it be for something very important?
Well, it better be.
But what is so important about driving faster than anyone else?
Lots of people go through life doing things badly. Racing's important to men who do it well.
When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting.

Windscreen=Windshield, dude!

My windshield gasket is matte rubber. I never knew there was any different kind until someone showed me a clear on and others have shown me silver ones. How very unique.

The "titainium" look of the trim around the winscreen (windsheild) I think is a 2002 thing. There is also "titainium" trim arround the air intake ports below the front bumper. I could live without them, especially since the one around the windsreen is rusting. I have yet to make the appointment to get it replaced. The debate is between having it replaced with the same "titainium" material or with the black rubber material. I'll see what the dealer who agreed to do the work under warantee has to offer. I'll post the results.

OK, got an appointment for next Wednesday to have the trim piece replaced under factory warrantee. As it turns out the "titanium" trim is something that was added for Boxster S only in 2000 and not in 2002 as i was guessing before. Consequently, when I asked the dealer if since mine rusted, I could have it replaced with a black plastic one, I was told that in order to have it done under warrantee they were only allowed to replace it with the original "titanium" variety. Hope this one does not rust..... Furthermore this particular dealer has found a windshield guy who can R&R them without breaking the glass, so therefore Iwill not be getting a new windshield out of the deal.... Oh well.....

Any chance you might post the dealership that replaced the trim for you? I'm also in Los Angeles, my titanium trim is also quite dingy (and it's come away from the window in the corner by the driver's side mirror), and I still have a month left on the CPO that I wouldn't mind putting to use
