New axle assemblies - outer boots already leaked

375 miles ago, I replaced both axles on my 2001 S. I got home from work last night and noticed the smell of burning oil or grease. This morning I was really disappointed to see that both outer boots have leaked what looks like all of the grease. These were brand new axle assemblies. The replacement went pretty smoothly apart from some stubborn nuts and bolts on the exhaust system, which I removed during the work. The inner boots look 100% sealed.

I had that problem after replacing the boots. The boots were still good and the bands in place, but grease leaked out, some of it burning on the exhaust. In my case I had put too much grease in when assembling the axle and as the car was driven hard, movement of the axles forced excess grease out.
