Non-smokers lighter plug doesn't fit

I bought the non-smokers lighter plug for by 2002. The plug does not fit (too big) and the entire assembly does not fit as well if I remove the old lighter assembly. Are these year specific? When I bought the plug off ebay it did not specifiy the year. Thanks.

From what I have been able to gather the diameter of the socket became a bit smaller as of model year 2002 and the plug from the old non-smoker is too large.

The european (larger) and US (smaller) lighter sockets are different size. It may be that Porsche has started provisioning US-sized sockets in cars destined for the US? My 2001 has a larger socket with which I need to use an adaptor for the cell phone charger (http://986forum.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1216&stc=1).

I found the following page that may be of interest.

Thanks Toolpants..that is what I told the seller from Germany and he did not believe me..It was extremely difficult removing the lighter assembly from the trim. I read your instuctions on doing so from another forum and it was still difficult.
