Key fobs

I am a new owner to a 99. I have one key fob that has no guts except for the communication pill that will start the car. I have another fob that has all guts and good battery that will only turn the lock, it will not start the car .Central locking does not work. There is some kind of aftermarket remote start BS that I have not traced down yet. I am considering taking the pill out of the working key and taping it in the car just in case i loose the working key. Where would it need to mount it to work? Does communication happen in the lock?

I put everything into a new $10 case :

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GVH6C21

( "uxcell New 3 Buttons Uncut Insert Key Fob Remote Control Case Shell Replacement for Porsche Cayenne 911 996 Boxster S 986" on Amazon)

Works like a charm.

I suspect the glass cell needs to be next to the other electronics. Only one way to find out :-)

Never mind on this. I found a local locksmith that can clone the transponder. I will have two keys!

Any third party support?

Hi All,

Has anyone found a reputable third party to repair, rebuild our key fobs? My unlock buttons are starting to fail.

Thanks!

If your issue is simply a button needing to be replaced, anyone with basic soldering skills should be able to help you out.

I replaced my own buttons using this youtube video and the parts they link to. Probably the easiest soldering job I've had to do, and I'm not great at soldering. Worked well first try.

If you just need a new plastic case, this one worked perfectly for me and makes it look new :
