Just ordered B&M SSK...
Simple to do?
Thanks! |
Hey Stryke :-)
GREAT CHOICE, One of my favorite modifications to the boxster... It isn't the most simple job, but follow the instuctions given and it isn't as bad as it seems... Besides, when you are done... You WILL NOT regret it! :-) Have fun :-) PorscheBoy (Jay) |
Thanks for the response. I hate the stock shift distance as it feels very poor and long. My brother's Japanese car even has a better shift feel. I just hear all these stories of people having shifting problems with noise and stiffness that I don't want to tackle it unless I know for sure what needs to be done. :)
Maybe Tool Pants can add to this? |
The shifter is a little clunkier (if it is a word), the throw is EXTREMELY short... It has a full out race car feel... There should be instructions with the shifter read them over... You should be able to do it yourself, but it is always good to have a friend around who knows what to do too :-) I will say this, everytime I take my car into the dealership the mechanic always comments on how he loves my shifter... That says a lot to me, since he only works on Porsches...

ditto, Porscheboy...
My mechanic loves my shifter almost as much as I do and often mentions it :) |
PorscheBoy, where do you take your car? Isringhausen?
|
TO jfmillr: Then you know what I am saying :-)
TO Adam: I used to take my car to Isringhausen, but now I have a Porsche racing mechanic work on what I can't... |
YEs I do. I wasnt all that rough on mine and when I bought the replacement I found out the old one was starting to show noticable wear and probably would have broken in the near future if I hadnt of replaced it :) Glad it didnt happen while on the road...

You can even install it blindfolded.

Done deal! Those bushings were a pain to cut off and the clip on the cable on the passenger side was a pain to take off and a bigger pain to put back due to a little plastic stud in the way. All in all I still have to get used to it as it is a much stiffer and shorter feel than the stock shifter. One thing I need to do is take apart my center console again and push it forward 1/8" because my hand brake leather cover is rubbing when I lift and lower it.
|
Well, good to hear the install went pretty smooth... I remember those bushings to be the hardest part on mine also... It just took a lil' time and patience... It will take some getting used to, but I think you'll love it... LET US KNOW! :-)

Stryker...
Stryker....
Congrats on the install! Can you give us more details on the installation and how long it took from start to finish?? I should be receiving mine in a couple of days. Thanks!!! |
Mark,
It took me about 2 hours flat with a good 20 minutes getting the stubborn bushings off the stock shifter. I have a 3 day business trip early in the morning so I need to go to bed now but can give all the details when I get back on Monday. :) |
