Best place to buy short shift kit?

Just ordered a Porsche Schnell Short Shift Kit and I am already regretting it from the reviews.

Sounds like the B and M is the superior kit to purchase. Any recommendations on where to buy this? Open to other suggestions as well.

I have one of Ben's short shift kits and am very pleased. Is Ben still making them?

Looks like it? Assuming it's the same Ben.

That's it. I have had mine for about 6 years- it is a fantastic upgrade!

Yes this is the best option in my opinion. I have tried Ben's, 987 and B&M. Ben's is the best by far.

I have a B+M for sale....if needed. In flawless condition.

I just switch to the 987 shifter and I’m pretty happy with it. Curious, how is Ben’s better? Perhaps I’ll have to consider upgrading my old shifter.

The 987 is a vast improvement over the 986 shifter, so i'm not saying it is bad or I didn't like it. Ben's shifter is basically a B&M or similar reworked with better bearings. At least that's the way mine is, it's a few years old. Ben's shifter has an even shorter throw than the 987 and feels like a bolt action rifle. So if you want a shorter throw and high quality bearings go with a Ben's. If you just want a shorter throw B&M or anything similar would work fine. If you are happy with the 987, then by all means keep using that one.

This thread caught my attention so I looked at the products mentioned. Ben's is $155 and the B&M us over $400. Am I missing something here or is Ben's really the best and by far the less expensive?

I've gone from stock -> 987/997 -> Ben's

9x7 is nice improvement over stock for sure. A nice reduction in throw and a little tighter feeling. I used it and was happy with it for ~5 years.

Ben's is shorter and tighter feeling yet again. The slight trade off being that the shorter you make the throw, the more effort that is required, which is true of any short shifter. It does have a really solid and precise feel that to me is definitely worth it. I sold my 9x7 unit after installing Ben's.

Ben's is the only aftermarket shifter I am aware of that uses ball bearings instead of plastic bushings.

I wouldn't buy the B&M even if it was the same price as Ben's.

You can also buy from Ben directly: https://benautodesign.fr/

Service place recommended the B&M so that's what it's getting.

AC blows warm and the one hose is/was crushed from an improper lift.

Right front strut needs to be replaced.

Small oil drip on to the exhaust.

Should have the total estimate by tomorrow afternoon.

OK, if the workshop gets more margin out of B&M shifters, that's OK.

If you want something really good you can also check CAE shifters – which don't fit into the stock center console. They are also available with modified shifter cables.

I have a generic short shifter from Amazon that I removed another inch from the top shaft and then raised the entire assembly up 40mm on spacers. Along with a heavy shift knob, I love the way it shifts and would never go back to stock. Travel is short, precise, and it feels almost like a gated shifter now.

It's with mentioning that I'm not sure if you could do this and still maintain factory center console, but it's a cheap enough mod that it may be worth trying.
