Part 1 of 2 is out! Changing the cam timing chain guides/rails with the engine IN THE CAR! I'm making 2 versions. This is the "condensed" version and it's still an hour long (and only half the job). Hits all the high points of the job for those of you who are curious. The "detailed" version is over 3 HOURS of, well, the FULL detail of the job with additional tips and tricks. If you are actually going to DO this job, I HIGHLY recommend the longer version. Enjoy!

It was definitely the most intensive job I've done to date on any car! Learned a lot. Gained more confidence. Made a friend. Helped the community. Overall a pretty good weekend!

Please note, that this is not necessary for facelift cars (late 2002-2004, 228 and 260 hp), because they have vane cell adjusters.

Cayman and so on do not have these type of chain guides.

So do they (post 2002) need the replacement in the first place?

He's saying that part doesn't exist in the 3 chain models, so no, it can't be replaced

Oh, right, it is a 3-chain design. I might have forgotten... but the moment I read your message, I was like - darn it, I read about it earlier.

So are there any other replaceable parts for the timing chain guide/tensioner?

There are the longer guide rails, but those require (at least) that the transmission is removed from what I can tell.
