Front drivers side control arm replacement

Hi,

My 2001 2.7L with 96k miles on it has just passed it's MOT, so all good, but the front drivers side control arm is making the characteristic clunk/creaking sound, especially at slow speed on full lock.

The passenger side was replaced by my local garage 3 or 4 years ago and at the time they said the drivers side was okay.

Since it just passed it's MOT and I did ask them to check the control arm it must still be okay, but I think I will replace it sooner rather than later.

Is it a job that can be undertaken by a competent mechanic with normal tools? I only have a trolley jack and axle stands, not a lift, and can't get the car in the garage, so drive (which slopes) or street, but do have ball joint separator and other tools, sockets, spanners, a big hammer.

If I do it myself, how long am I looking at to do one side? I expect everything will be stuck on tight.

Or am I better getting the garage to do it?

Ta
