A classic...a sports classic...

That's pretty neat what Porsche has done with an early 996.1. They replaced the 3.4L w/ a Metzger engine, taco spoiler replaced w/ a duck tail and upgrades to the interior. It's not practical to drop in a Metzger engine, but the rest is all doable.
It's funny - now that earlier generations of the 911 have reached prices beyond what most of us can afford, the 996 is becoming the the new darling of the 911 crowd. Not near the whining about the headlights and there's enough options to replace the IMS bearing now that it's pretty much just become a maintenance item. I have a very heavily optioned '99 aerokit 996 that I bought for a song 7 years ago. I just wish I would have bought several of them then, because they're getting where I can't afford them now. Even our little Boxsters are getting pricey. I still have a couple of build projects floating around in my head - I hope I can find the right cars before they become too expensive. If anybody comes across a decent white over Boxster Red interior '99, let me know. :D |
A few months ago I picked up a 1999 996 C4 coupe with a dead 3.4 . I am currently building a 3.8 Stage II with help from FSI . Mine is black over grey and 6 speed manual . After I get the engine in and running for a while I will then turn to body mods . Am thinking GT3 front bumper , GT3 side skirts and either a duck or taco rear spoiler.
She will make a fine stable mate to my Boxster S with a 3.6 FSI Stage II. My Boxster has a GT3 front bumper/side skirts with a GT3Tek rear bumper diffuser and Joe Toth ducktail . My vision is GT3 twins 😁 |

I love the Fuchs...classic.
Resto-mods win over new cars any day in my opinion. |

So wait a minute... Porsche rebuilt a 996 with a gt3 powerplant and gt3 facelift, keeping the ducktail and adding 2 piece Fuchs wheels... And we're calling this a classic?
Sounds to me like someone in Stuttgart finally said "hey, remember how we ****************ed up 2 whole generations of cars by cutting corners? Let's make the car we should have from the beginning". Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk |
