Rubbing issues with 18x10 for rear?
 

Hello, I've searched and am a bit confused.

The wheels for the fronts should be fine, with no confusion, but the rears i'm worried. The rear wheel specs are as follows...

5x130
18x10 in
Offset 40 mm

Planning on running 265/35/18 tires

MY97, with the eibach 1" lowering springs and bilstein sport struts. Anybody have any input as if these wheels will be fine? I searched and found Randall's thread regarding his 18x10 w/ 47mm offset and he got 7mm spacers to push it out to +40mm but his vehicle didn't look like it was lowered.

I'm majorly concerned with the +40mm offset being too far out that it would cause fender rubbage. Any input would be appreciated (besides the MY97 not fitting 18s).

My vehicle isn't lowered... yet. I did sit on the ground in front of the rear wheels after I put on the spacers to ponder exactly what you are facing though... could I lower it and not have wheel well rubbing?

Boy, that would be something you'd have to actually try for yourself. Problem is it won't be cheap if it does rub.

There are forum members who have large wide rims on lowered boxsters here. Maybe they'll read this thread and give you more confidence to buy those new rims.

buy them, they'll fit fine.

i have 19z, lowered 1.3 inches, with 275 35 19 on the rear. i did have to put a spacer (7mm). you can barely even notice the 7mm spacer. doesn't sound like you will need a spacer.

It will fit just fine. My car is dropped just over 1.5" and im running 18X10 in the rears no problem. I also have 285/30/18 tires with no issues.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's good to know people are lowered more than me and aren't haven't rubbing issues. Since 52mm is the offset for stock width wheels I was drumming myself with calculations as to the 12mm difference in outward offset was too much or sufficient in fitting the wider width wheels.

Guess my Box will be having new shoes to run on :)

All you guys that responded to the original post didn't mention what offsets you have. Without that information, your examples don't help him.

I have 18x10s on the rear of my 03 Boxster S, with a 47mm offset. It looks like 7mm less on the offset would be OK, but it would be very flush, and depending on what tire you used, it looks like it could rub. That said, the eBay sellers that are selling 18x10s with 40 offsets say they fit the Boxster just fine.
