99 convertible top

My friends 99 top went down, now won’t go up. Nothing happens when switch is pushed. Seems electrical. Thoughts, ideas?

Does the parking brake light come on when you engage it? Mine did the same thing because the parking brake sensor failed. Had to convert to manual operation for a bit until I got the sensor replaced.

That is the same thing mine started doing.
Then I noticed as tWv stated that the parking brake light on the dash was not coming on when the top failed to go up or down.
So I removed the micro switch on the hand brake and cleaned it.
No more issues.

Just replaced mine, here`s a useful video on how to do it:

Before I replaced it, I had been using the top for months by shorting the switch`s connector at the double relay, that also works.

In addition to the EB... you might also check the microswitch in the latch. Poke your finger in there a few times... or remove and inspect.

I have this issue with the parking brake switch - is it worth trying to "clean" the switch or should I just order the part and plan on replacing it? I guess what I'm asking is - do people know how this is failing and if so, is it worth cleaning vs. replacing?

The part is really inexpensive and it’s a bit of a pain to get out, you essentially have to break the old one to do so (at least in my experience). I would just go ahead and replace it if you are getting in there anyways.

This is what I needed! I went to my local dealership today and they didn't have the part in stalk but if I could clean it somehow without removing it - I'd tackle that this weekend. I'll order the part from our host and tackle this when it shows up next week.
